A rumor comes from England, to the effect that the object of Sir Jobn Mac- donald's visit to England, is to arrange a scheme for the admission of the British West Indies into the Canadian confedera- tion. What truth there may be in the rumor remains to be seen. The recent visit of M-. CORNWALL, Ont., Oct. 16.

Voting on the Scott Act took place to-day in the unitod counties of Dundas, Stormont and Glenga ry, and resulted in the passage of the Act by about two thons- and majority. This is the biggest victory yet for the Act, for there was a majority in each county.

The date of the polling on the Scott Aci in Norfolk Co., Oatario, is on Nov. 11.

Petitions to submit the Act have been presented from the Counties of Brant, Lanark, Kent and Perth.

To Establish British Authority.

The Government has sent orders to Sir Hercules Robinson, Governor of Cape Colony, to adopt necessary steps to estab- lish British authority in the Mountainons Country. The Governor will probably employ local forces at his command. with volunteers aided to carry out the command.

Turks and Caicos Islands are annexed to Jamaica. They have an area of 223 square miles, and a population of 4,778.

Trinidad comprises an area of 1.754 square miles, with a population of 153 128. Tue total revenue in 1882 was £437,383, and the expenditure £441,194.

The Leward Islands are six in number, containing a total population of 118,000. The revenue is about £105,000 per annum, and barely meets the expenditure, The exports are sugar, coffee, cocoa, todacco, molasses, lime jaice and wood, The total ares is about 663 square miles.

The Windward Islands consist of Barba- does, St. Vincent; Grenada, Tobago and St. Lucia, with a total population of about 285,000, and an area of about 800 square miles.

The Bahama group consists of about twenty inhabited islands, and an immense number of rocks and islets, comprising an area of about 5,794 equare miles. St. Sal- vador, the land first discovered by Colum- bus, is one of the group. The total popu- lation is about 43,551. The revenue in 1882 was £45,085, and the expenditure £43522. Tne chief exports are salt, sponges, pine-apples, oranges, and other fruits.

The Bermudas are a cluster of about 300 Islands, only a few of which are inhabited, comprising a combined area of about 41 square miles, and having a population of 14,559, exclusive of the army and navy. Bermuda possesses a strongly fortified dock- yard where the North American squadron refits,
