It is not necessary, he pointed out, to have apy expensive machinery to plant this corn. Run a plough through your field, leaving furrows about three feet apart, take a tin pail, tapering towards the bot- tom, in which pierce holes, by means of a arge nail sufficient to allow a kernel of corn t» paes throngh, shake this over the furrow, having three or four kernais in a pile and each pile ab-at three feet apart, | then cover up and you have the corn! planted as well as the most ex pensive machinery would do it 3! aud when it springs up, if it be attended to—namely, the weds cut down—it will! grow to the height of 5 or 6 feet. Even if! the farmer has no manure let him not do’ without the curn; but plough up a piece of pasture land and it will be as good as can be obtained. He showei how the dairying interests would keep our young people on the farm, by increasing the amount of! money in circulation, and thereby causing a| greater interest to be taken in agriculture. | He also explained a simple means of saving’ the coru when one has not a silo, by means of a rail resting on two supports in the form of a wood horse, on both sides of which are built the stook of corn, which is ept in position by means ef another pole driven at right angles through a hole in the stick. The corn is then tied at the head by’ means of a hay or straw rope. The pinion is pulled up, the horse withdrawn, and the stuok remains perfectly stable and may be left in the field during the winter, to be fed to the stock when necessary; or they may be taken into the shed and stood upon end, for, if otherwise, they would heat. He was thoroughly successful in the purp-se of his address, for his hearers wen: away | imbued with a spirit of self-confidence, and believing that dairy farming is the only kind of farming that will pay on P. E. Is. land, and determined to lay off a part of their farms for the growing of green feed for their cattle; to give up the starvation and to patroniz: the cheese factory, and make a complete revolation in f gang matters at this end of the Island, so that they will never be caught in the same pre- dicament for fodder and cash ws they have been this spring.

The Dairying Industry.

According to notice a meeting was held in the schvolroom, Cambridge Cross. Hon. James Clow, President of the comp ny, presided, and opened the meeting with

Dilion, calling on the latter gentleman to give an accuunt of the work done at the New Perth deirying station last seacon. He (Mr. Dillion) then gave an outliue of the work done at the New Perth statzon last season, which far exceeded his expectations, and hoped that the Murray Harto: North Dairying Company’s efforts wouid be crowned with the same success. Mr. Dillon said that the Murray Harbor North Dairy- ing Company was deserving of great praise in having such a fine factory. He wished the company every success, and concluded his speech by saying that ke would de alur| his power to make the business 4 success.

Prof. Robertson lectured here yesterday to a goodly number of agriculturists, notwith- standing the very busy season. The Professor is evidently a practical man, and the directors of our factory no doubt gained some very val.- uable information We trust that the advice given as to raising fodder corn, etc , will be ected on by our farmeis, and thus ensure the success of the cheese industry.

We are pleased to see our young friend J. A. C. Rodgerson again in our midst. Mr. Rodgerson spent the winter in Dalhousie College, where he paased in all the subjects of the second year, though it was his first term in that institution. We understand that this is the second time an Islander has done this in the history of Dalhousie. We congratulate Mr. Rodgerson on his marked success.

The little ‘May Queen,” to the suprise of everyone save and except the two gentlemen in question, steamed up to our wharf and after getting her two paesengers aboard left for Charlottetown. Oa her return trip, owing to the tile being too low or to the dense fog at the time prevailing, she was un- able to meke the wharf, and with our two grit friends and a number of other gentlemen, was compelled to remain in the river about a mile from the village, till 6 o’ctock next morning. Without fire, a morsel of food, or any other comfort, did these two men com p'ain, swear or malign the government as in days gone by? No. With calm resignation which betokens happiness, they quietly sat down, smoked their calumets, relieving the monotony every now and then by an exeru ciating yawn.

Since then they often relate the pleasant night they speat on the waters of the Hills. boro. Verily a great change has taken place.
