I remember one evening in the late thirties standing in my brother Ludlow's yard at hiarshfield and counting wildgeese coming in from Tra cadie Bay and alighting in the river a few hundred yards from his farmhouse.

I estimated there were a thou» sand geese already rafted out in mid river before I commenc- ed the count. They were coming in a steady stream of flocks numbering from 10 or 15 to fifty or sixty.
