October may turn out to be a good month for gangsta rap fans with three new releases in the first week alone.

Up first is Luniz who hail from the Oakland, California area and their new CD, Operation Stackola, has a style similiar to that of earlier rappers to come out of that area. Don’t think that means these guys are just another copy-cat duo out to make a quick buck, these guys have put out some serious original tracks making this disc a must for any collection.

Fans that are looking for a copy-cat have it in Doug E.Fresh who many may remember from his work with Slick Rick. His latest telease, Play, makes it easy to under- stand why Slick left to pursue a solo career. I already wasted 65 minutes and 31 seconds of my life checking this one out and suggest you don’t make the same mistake.

Finally we have Foe Life, an — impressive release from Mack 10, whom most may know from working With Ice Cube on What Can I Do? Cube produced most of the tracks on this one and even makes a guest apperance. Due to his heavy influ- ence, fans of Ice Cube might want to Pick this one up but for the impartial listener there are better ones on the

The Dumb Oracle is just as they describe, a dumb noise combo. I tried to think of some- one who actually might like this one but decided I’d rather not know the kind of person who would like this. I’ve already wasted too many words on an disc that would haved proved more interesting as a frisbee.

Two outstanding female vocal- ists are the focus of this week’s music review, and although their styles vary greatly, both of the new CDs are worth listening to.

On her self-titled new disc, Ontario born Rebecca Timmons demonstrates that she deserves to be mentioned with Canada’s premier artists. With a sultry voice and powerful lyrics some may be re- minded of another female artist to come out of Canada, Sarah MacLachlan, but she has a style much her own. Fans of Tori Amos, Lisa Loeb or just good music should get this one while you can.

Sean ‘‘Puffy’’ Combs and Bad Boy entertainment have brought us

our next artist, Faith. This is her debut disc but many may already reconize her from her work with Mary J. Blige, Al B. Sure Usher and many others. With a strong gospel background her vocals rival that of other soul divas and fans of Blige’s My Life CD will certainly enjoy this one.
