Mill River winter Programs

Although the snow is on the ground and skiing is the focus at Mill River Provincial Park, there is still a strong interpretive flavour to the winter programs offered within the Park.

Dan McAskill conducted a "Feeding and Attracting Winter Birds Workshop" which drew a number of interested birders. This program is offered annually in Mill River and always proves popular with people of all ages.

A miniature bird feeding village has been constructed within the Park. This interpretive structure is complete with a church and school and is a regular stop for a number of our feathered friends.

Two additional unique programs are being offered in the Park this season. "Trek for Tracks" is a program which will involve trekking through the park. on snowshoes or skis to examine the ‘various signatures left in the snow by various animals that make their home in our fields and woodlots. This program is conducted by Conservation Officer, Ross Bernard.

A "Taste of Winters Past" is one of the most popular programs held at Mill River. This program involves visits to a temporary "Sugar Shack" where guests will be treated to Maple Sugar Taffy on snow. This traditional favourite is a prelude to a Parks demonstration sugar bush and promises a savory mix of nostalgia and excitement for people of all ages.

The recreational and interpretive opportunities are numerous at Mill River Provincial Park and Islanders are invited to visit this all inclusive winter destination located in Woodstock, P.E.I. For additional information, contact the ski shop at 859-2238.
