Shipbuilding in Wove Scotia. |

| The number of vessels now building | under contractin Nova Scotia, the | Halifax Herald says, ia 107, aggregat- ing 56,040 tons., The list includes 1 | steamer, | tug-boat, 63 ships, 8 barques, | 1 barquentine, 1 brig, I brigantine, and | 71 schooners. A comparison with the list of vessels registered in 1833, shows | a large ane rease of tonnage, but a con- | siderable > falling offin number, and in-| dicates sa tendency towards building | large vessels. For instance, two of the | ships now building wili register about | 2,100 tons each, one is put Jown at) 2,000 tons and three at 1,800, while the| smaHest will measure 300 tons. The barques are also large,al! but twe being | of 1,000 tons or upwards. Some of the| echooners'are small,as might be ex-| pected, but there is one of 700 tons, another nearly as large, while half a dozen more range from 300 to 500 tons.

He Cursed God and Died.

A PHILADELPHIAN STRICKEN DOWN WITH BLASPHEMOUS WORDS ON HIS LIPS AND NOW A CORPSE,

The sudden death of Lemuel Thomas, while he was blasphemously imper- sonating the Saviour at a supper party, in Philadelphia on the 18th, his suab- sequent paralysis of the heart, and the finding of his corpse in his bedroom, has given Jenkintown and its vicinity a sensation. Thomas was a carpenter, over sixty years of age, who rarely at- tended church and who was noted in Jeokintewn for his disregard for reli- gion. On Monday evening, he met two friends of kindred disposition, by arrangement at Coltman’s hotel, They had made every provision for a supper and the tables were loaded with poultry and liquors. Every one was in good health and spirits. Before they sat down one of the guests suggested that Thomas, who was the oldest man pre- seit, should offerupa prayer. This he did amid the laughter and jests of those present,among whom were Richard Micers, a town councilman, and Henry Thomas, the only son of the host.

After they had been seated one of the men said that the reunion,on account of there being thirteen. present, was sug- gestive of the last supper, and while they were eating, drinking and shout- ing. Thomas uttered a terrible oath and made use of some blasphemous ex- pressions that shoclved_eveu his comrades.

plained of a pain. It was not until 11
