New Haven, Conn., July 13.—The Beard of Education Association, which lasted until midnight, dismissed Ernest Leitield, a teacher in the high school, on a charge of not enforcing disciplingin his school. Principal Thomas was severely censured for not supervising his work, it being that he had not visited Mr. Lei- field’s room within a year. As Mr. Leni- fiell is very popularin New Haven, the action of the board will probably be strongly protested against.

Loxpon, July 12.—The Times publishes its initial report of British crops. It says that owing to prolonged drought the con- dition of all crops except hops compare most unfavorably with the condition pre- vailing July 1, 1894. A comparative table gives the following: Wheat 79.3 in 1895 to 101.8 in 1894; barley 83 in 1895 to 102.9 in 1894; oats 76.4 in 1895 to 105.4 in 1894.
