Nov. 18-20: A Bioregional Farmer/Scientist Workshop in Organic Agriculture (Maine and Maritime Provinces) at Fredericton, New Brunswick. Nov. 26: A meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at the CP Hotel in Charlottetown for people who would like to become more active in promoting environ— mental well-being. For more information, see notice in this newletter.

Dec. 2: CBC's Canadian Reflections will show "Island Nature", a video produced by Brian Pollard for the Island Nature Trust. The program begins at 1 p.m.

Dec. 6: The monthly meeting of the Natural History Society of P.E.I. at the Farm Centre, 8 p.m. Martin Rudy Haase, of Friends of Nature, will show a video and speak on his friend, the late Richard St. Barbe Baker. See note in this newsletter.

Dec.—Jan.: A Birds of Prey exhibit at the Eptek Centre in Summerside.

The exhibit is from the Provincial Museum of British Columbia.

Jan. 3: UPEI professor Earl Wonnacott will speak on astronomy at the January meeting of the Naturual History Society of P.E.I. at the Farm Centre, 8 p.m. in Charlottetown.

Feb. 7: Wade MacKinnon, a forest technician, will give NHS members an update of the work he and others are doing with the Montague Watershed Management program. The meeting, as usual, will be held at 8 p.m. at the Farm Centre.

June 11—14: The Canadian Nature Federation's annual conference will be hosted in Charlottetown by the Natural History Society and the Island Nature Trust. Dec. 7: Martin Rudy Haase will be showing "On the Edge of the Forest", filmed in Western Australia and narrated by E.F. Schumacher, at a meeting of the Eastern Woodlands Association. Mr. Haase will also talk on the importance of natural, old-growth forest. The meeting, at the Regional Services Centre in Montague, begins at 7:30.

PEI joins heritage rivers program

The Federal Environment Minister, Tom McMillan; and Prince Edward Island's Minister of Tourism and Parks, Gordon MacInnis, announced on Oct. 5 that P.E.I. has joined the Canadian Heritage Rivers System.

Canadian Heritage River designation recognizes the nationally sig- nificant rivers of Canada and ensures conservation of their natural, historical and recreational values through long-term management plans.

The Canadian Heritage Rivers System is a joint program established in 1984 between the federal government and, to date, eight provinces (Newfoundalnd, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and now Prince Edward Island), as well as the Yukon and North- west Territories.
