Fishery Bualletia.

Hawirax, July 3.—The codfishery is re- ported good at Long Point and St. John River, Que., and fair at New Port, Point (Queen and coast of Cape Breton. It is goodat,L’Ardvise, fair at Port Hood, Louis- burg and Arichat. In Nova Scotia a few mackerel are reported taken by hooks and

P. E. Island from Miminigash around to Alberton, the catch was fair. At Port

Hocd, Ingonish, St. Anns, Arichat and St Peters a heavy body reported schooling. Outside St Peters Bay both the herring and the mackerel are reported good. At Lunenburg and Liverpool] caplin are stil] plenty. At English Bay, S. W. Point and Fox Bay lobsters are very plentiful

Firemen’s Tournament,

The Island firemen returned from the tournament at Moncton last evening. They did good good work while there, fully keeping up the reputation of the Province. Here is their record :

Hook and Ladder Race—(Three teams entered )—The Charlottetown team won in 18 2-5; Fredericton second in 19.1-6, and Halifax third in 19.2-5. Prize $20.

Hose Reel Race (300 yards)—-The entries were : Charlottetown, Truro, Ambherst, Moncton. Won, by Moncton in 1,20 2-5 Charlottetown second, 124; Truro, 1.54 4-5: Amherst, 1.27 25; Fredericton, 1.27.

Hose Ree) Race (200 yards, in uniform) — Campetitors.;Chariottetowa and Moncton, Won by Moncton in 1 04; Charlottetown, 1.06,

Drivers Race—Ist, John Proud; 2d, Jos. Hennessey, both of Charlottetown.

Professional Race—2d, Thus. McKenna, Charlottetown.

Officers Race—Ist, Charlottetown.

Three-Legged Race.—Johu |Proud and James McEachern, of Charlottetuwa, ran a dead heat with the Halifax representatives.

There was a good deal of dissatisfaction over the decision in the second hose reel race. Several of the spectators held stop watches and claimed that the time made by Charlottetown was the fastest. The Island boys thought they had the race, too, but the judges gave it to Moncton.

—The devilish perseverance of the in- cendiary, and the slackness of the commu- nity in respect to him, have resulted in an- other disastrous fire. This time only horses and other property have been destroyed. We have not to mourn the loss of human life. But surely it is time to adopt effective measures to rid the town of the infernal midnight vandal and his torch. If we have no detective of suffi- cient skill to trace the villain to his haunts and capture him, let one be imported for the purpose. Let us not spare money about this matter.

__The Patriot labors to create a prejudice against the Liberal-Conservative party on account of the consolidation of the laws. This was a work demanded by the public. Session after session the Upposition de- claimed against the Sullivan Administration because the work, so much required, had not been engaged on. But now that the work is done, these same men raise an out- cry because of the expense incurred, The work was a great work, involving an im- mense amount of labor. Of course it cost some money. But there is no evidence to prove that other lawyers than those en- gaged would have performed it for one dol- lar less than was paid the commissioners. As to the printing, we are confident that full value was rendered for every dollar paid THe EXAMINER on account of it.
