The Tranecripv’s informant farther reported Jolin as having given atterance to the following remarks: ‘*Peo- ple may think that I am afraid to die. (hat is not so. If we mistake not the entertainment of S Jest evening was the first that has been

The heat of the hall throughout the evening was much too great forthe comfort of the au‘lience and it was a serious hindrance | to the musicians and other performers. But the entertainment progressed smoothly and successfully neverthelese, until late in

Hodgson, Miss Cotton, Rev. T. H. Hunt and Mr. J. Owen was admirable, and the-instrumental sextette in brass was a capital number. Miss Phoebe Large and Miss Gwendoline Welsh both made their first public appearance at the Opera House as musicians and~ both per- formed creditably,—the first giving a violin solo and the Jast a cornet solo. is pleasing to note tbat the talents of many of our ladies and gentlemen are employed in the cultivation of the arts; and we think that Miss Mellish is to be congratu- lated on the new ability that she has ip- troduced to the ‘public, as well as upon the general success of her first eatertainment.
