Rioop Poronine.—An autopsy to locate she seat and nature of the disease of the late Dr. McKay was held on Wednesdsy torenoon by Dr. Jenkins, jr., of Charlottetown (who came up on the morning train for the purpose) Dr. McLellan, of Summerside, and Dr. Wil- liam McKay, brother of the deceased. As a yesult the matter was put beyond a doubt that the cause of death was blood poisoning caused by an abscess which broke iowardly, the pus then becoming absorbed in the tissue. —Farmer

The music at Vespers will consist of the ordinary Psalms with Emmerig’s Grand Magnificat, with orchestra. Replying to Mr. Harlan, commissioner for the United Stater, he said that the! ukase and charter issued by Russia clearly intended before 1825 the exclusion of for- | eigners from Behring Ses. But there was achange after the diplomatic correspond. | ence Che renewals of the charter after the treaty of 1825 did not confer privileges | on Russian subjects that were denied to | foreigners. It only conferred on some Russian subjects priv leges which were | exclusive as against other Russian subjects |

He traced the ground of the whaling in. dustry, and referred to the appea! made by | the Russian governor of Alaska in 1842,and of the governor of Siberia in 1847 for pro- | tection ayainst foreign intrusion. These requests from Russian subjects were met by the refusal of the Russian government.

The Russian ministry at that time gave | the reason that such interference in Behring | Sea would contravene treaty stipulations, |

Sir Charles Russell quoted the cases of the American ship Loriot in 1837. This action of the American authorities was met with United States protests on the lines now asserted by Great Britain.

Sir Charles repeated Carter’s statement that Russia had never asserted territorial jurisdiction over Behring Sea, quoting ukase and charter to show that the author-| ity was asserted, though it was never en- foreed.

In confirmation of the British contention that the scope of the submision to the present board of arbitration is limited to Behring Sea, he qwted the letter written by United States Assistant Secretary Wharton after the signature of the treaty.

This letter defined the controversy to be as follows :

**Have the Americans the exclusive right to take seals in the eastern part of Behring sea, or have the British sealers common privileges outside three mile limit ?”

Sir Charles contended that the American claim to have a right to protect seals on the high sea necessarily involved the territorial dominion which America now repudiated.

DIED.

In this city, on Thursday, 18th inst., Flora McLean, the beloved wife of John McKinnon, aged 68 years.

[Funeral from her late residence, Euston St., to People’s Cemetery on Saturday at 10a. m }

At Murray Harbor South, on Saturday, May 13:h, Thomas Machon, aged 86 years, Mr. Machon was the son of Daniel Machon, who emigrated from Guernsey, Channel Islands, to this Island in the year 1806. He enjoyed a peculiarly healthy life, having never been sick until a few days before his death, retaining all his faculties to the last. He lived a consistent Christian life and for over fifty years was an active member of the Methodist Church. None spoke of him with- out words of praise. The funeral took place on Tuesday, May, 16th, from the residence of his son, Henry Machon, and was very largely attended. The services were conducted by the Rev. H. W. Spargo, assisted by the Rev Ewen Gillies, pastors of the Methodist and Presbyterian churches respectively, and the interment was in the Murray Harbor South © metery.
