Sir,—C. G., who professes to come from Lot 30, in the last issue of the New Fra, has made an aitempt to bring some charges ag ainst the Hon. William Campbell. - Now \T have not the slightest doubt Mr. Camp- bell will be able satisfactorily to explain, ‘not only in this matter, but also as regards | the duties of his office. Mr. Campbell has, since his appointment to office, worked inight and day for the good of his country, | and has a record above suspicion. The isame cannot be said of his predecessor, W. | D. Stewart, the man who is now soliciting ‘the votes of the electors of the First Dis- ‘trict of Queen’s County, who spent most of his time, during the summer months, driv- ing through the country with a pair of i horses and a handsomely cushed buggy, |sporting white kid gloves; and his office, iwhich he was paid for handsomely to at- fend to, was neglected. Friday's storm was one of the wildest we have experienced this year in consequence of which we have had no Colonial mail since Thursday.
This ia nomination day, and a number of country people are in town. The general impression here is that Hon. John Lefur- gey and Dr. Gillis will be returned with little difficulty, There is a repert in Sum- merside that the wsthetic editor of the ** Journal’” made a speech at a polttical meeting in Charlottetown on Thuraday evening, and that he referred to Hon. Mr. Lefurgey as one of the c»ndidates certain of success. He told the truth for once; but how will the Grits like such a state- iment.
| There was quite a fiasco at the Clifton Honse here on Saturday morning. It ap- pears that a young gentleman from Tyne Valiey became enamored with a young lady belonging to Port Hill, and the love was so deep on both sides that an elopement was arrenged while papa was absent, The young couple started on Friday, and ar- rived in the evening at the Cliften House preparatory to getting married the next morning, but the young lady’s mother hav- ing missed her daughter, and becoming anxious, drove from Port Hill, arriving at Summerside about two o'clock on Saturday mornivg. It is needless to record what fol- lowed—the marriage was prohibited, and the girl returned home with her muiher to Port Hill, while the young man went off to his business at Tyne Valley, firaily resolved to ask papa’s leave for the hand of his daughter, on his return home. It is but fair to say that the young gallant behaved

In 1879 two men named Riley and Troy were sent from Charlottetown, P. E. I., to Penitentiary, subsequently being removed to Kingston under the charge of Mr. Foster, of the Dorchester Penitentiary. At the expiration of their time (two years) on their way from Kinyston they were arrested by the Railway Detective at Point Levis, for being drunk and creating a disturbance at the station. On being searched a quan- tity of skeleton keys and pick locks were found in their possession ; also two tickets for Pictou. They were released after un- dergoing a short imprisonment, and con- tinued their journey to Picton. These facts were communicated te the police authorities at Picton, St. John, and Halifax, by the Railway Datective.
These men are known to have been in Fredericton the time the post effice was burglarized; also in Truro the time the Post Office at that place was robbed. They are also suspected of being the parties who stole a horse from a farmer a few miles out of Moncton. About four weeks ago they were recognized by Detective Skeffingten, of the [. C. R., in an hotel opposite the station in Traro, The Detective sent a telegram to Stipendiary Wortman at Mone- ton to try and get a definite charge against them, >ut not getting a reply, and having other business to attend to, he left. The following night a place was rebbed in
