EDITORIAL

Two weeks ago I went to a political youth / gathering. This gathering was organized to make 7 reornnendaticns to the government to which, a hopefully.‘ tleyvmldtakeheed. _

Some strange things happened that weekend. After paying ny'dues and being allowed to attend udhich I was doing for the newspaper) I was told that I or any'nenber of my staff would not be allowed to

report on the sendnars. I am not reporting on it.

consider this act of censorship. First.of all, here is a group of young people trying to influence governmental decisions. So how do they decide to do this? By making sure only they and the

government know what is said.

Oh.but isn't this a

wise way to influence politicians who listen to the voice of the grtnr>that screams laudest. After all, now if nothingionnes of their work, only they'will

know and they'll save face.

Second of all. this fine group of upstanding citizens, many of‘drancxmpﬂain about secrecy in government, decide to sneak off into a learnerarea of P.E.I. and discuss issues of concern to the public- If their hopes are realized. the government.may’act on their reconnendation and some of thsmlnay even Ixrxme laws. Why should thezntﬂic know its laws beforehandz Besides, the pdblic may think these youths were connected to one particular party if they

said anything. being (gasp) liberals!

been allowed to report if everyone agreed to it. (I should stress now that the organizer was . cxmpﬂetely'impartial and I thank him for at least

trying.)

This did not happen. Che person objected.

Three more agreed.with hing one saying he would be first to cause trouble."ENeryone else was

silent.

Can you.imagine that.

The voice-of four

people denying infomIatim to at least 1500 people. It must be nice to have enough power to do that. It's strange sonarmewould use this power to do that. These people who voted against The Sun will possibly be the government in the future. Shades

So The Sun was not allowed to print a story. Who

cares? I sure as hell do.

Who wants four people

to stop the public frtnlhearing what they should be

told.

Who cares if they approach the government

backwards? Anyone who would like to see sane of

these recommendations taken seriously.

Who cares if

they did all this in secrecy? All those who would. like to know‘what I'nlkicking up all this fuss

about, as well as anyone who wants to know who the government is listening to and what they are hearing.

I wish to extend my con— gratulations to those who helped in planning the Harvest Ball. The hotel facility was decorated with a lot of care, good taste,‘ and presented a pleasant atmosphere. The facility _itself was a good choice as it was spacious and very comfortable.
