Bap Rerorts.—Reports to the North Sydney Herald from some sections of Cape Breton county say the oat crop is an entire failure, and the farmers are cutting it down und housing it for feed for cattle. From Black Brook up to Boularderie Head there will net be a barrel of oats threshed this year owing to rust. Last year one or two fields were known to be affected, but this year rust has destroyed every field of grain in the stretch of district referred to above.

A RemarKkapLe Occurrence.—Mr. Win. O'Brien, farmer, of Windsor Forks, N. S., had fora few days past noticed that a valuable Clydesdale colt was not thriving asit should, and was at a loes for an explanation, until his hired man happening to go to the pasture very early one morning, saw sthe mother of the elt, a thoroughbred Clydesdale mare, stand- lug very quietly while she was being greedily sucked by two calves, both ef which had a very thrifty appearance. Standing near was the hungry and sorrowful-looking colt. Old farmers say they never before heard of the like ae -_-

A Lone-Livep Famuty.—A social ga- thering took place at the residence of Mrs. Pairiquia, on Saturday last, to celebrate the 87th birthday of her father Deacon William Pick. There were also present his brother James Pick, aged 82, and his Wife, aged 85; his two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Murphy and Miss Lucy Pick, aged re- spectively 80 and 76 years. The father of the Pick family came to Horton, from Eng- land, iu the year 1775, married and settled in Wolfville, where the above named four children and others were born. Three ther members of the family are dead, one dying only a few years ago at the age of 90 years. Probably there is no other family in the county to-day that bas so many liv- mg members at such an advanced age.— Wolfe le Acadian.
