The three Americans, named for solving some of the basic riddles of heredity. were intro- duced by Torbjoern Caspersson, professor of medical cell research and genetics at the Caroline In- stitute.

The Russians, honored for dis- covery and subsequent study of the Cherenkov effect, were intro- duced by Prof. Kai Siegibahn, the 1924 winner of the Nobel prize in Physics. The Cherenkov effect deals with the effect of radiation on various fluids.
