Lists containing hibitors of horses already appeared in and only a few general remarks are now necessary. Horses are prime favorites of mankind, and for our Island farmers they bring in every year quite a little pile of money. Therefore, the horse ring on the Exhibition grounds is ever the
great centre of attraction; and hun- dreds of connoisseurs in _ horseflesh look on with interest while the judges
select the prize-winners. It gives us great pleaaure to record the fact that—notwith- standing the heavy draughts made by horse buyers during this season, the show of horses is larger and on the whole better than it has been in years that are paet. The competitions were quite keen in both draught and carriage classes The latter class was headed by Hernanlo and Black Pilot. Black Pilot appeared in racing con- dition fresh from the scenes of his recent triumphs. The Messrs. Dockendorff’s notable success is a fair example of the im portance of ‘‘breeding from the best.” Besides Black{Pilot (by All Right) they have on exhibition his full brother Robbie Lee, and a half sister with er foal—beautiful animals al!, and very valuable in the horse markets Mr. H. B Smith, of this city, also makes a most creditable exhibit in the carriage classes. He shows a splendid colt under three years, a filly also uader three, and a very fine mare and foal. The other exhibitors, whose namea will be found in THe ExaMiner’s list of entries and the Prize List, deserve great credit. The draft class is well filled, though Barrister is absent this year. Mr. Tweedy’s Oak’s Heart, McRae & Robbins’ Sunk Island Hero, Mr. Wood-ide’s splendid and Messrs. Heartz & McKie’s magnificent Percheron Stallion Duroc, make up a quar tette which would show to advantage cn any exhibition ground in America. Oak's Heart is supported by an exceedingly five class of colts, fully vindicating his character asasire. A very fine draft stallion three years old, Brown Stout, is shown by Mr. John Bell, and Mr. A. N. Large’s Al of Canada is a splendid sample of the hardy, strong, active, easily kept French-Canadian breed.
CATTLE.
The show of bulls is small and rather disappointing—thongh those of Hon. D. Ferguson and George F. Owen, Esq., are very good in their different classes. There is, however, a satisfactory cxhibit of thor- oughbred calves and young cattle in Short horns and Ayrshires. Mr. John Dewar, of Lot 48, is the leading exhibitor, with 14 animals. Hon. D. Ferguson follows closely with 12 animals, 9 of which are thorough breds; and Henry Longworth, Esq., has 9 animals. The calves and heifers shown by these gentlemen are very fine indeed. Mrs. J. Longworth also shows two very fine calves, and the calves shown by Mr. Robert Dewar, of New Perth, Mr. George Mason, of Lot 48, and Mr. George Vessey, of Little York, bid fair to grow to bs splendid animals. In Ayrshire calves, Hon. D. Fer- gyson, Wallace Rodd, Brackley Pvoint Road, Alex. Robertson, Marshfield, R. B. Stewart, Bradshaw, and F. G. Bovyer, Georgetown Royalty, make creditable ex- hibits. Hon. T H. Haviland, H. Long- worth and Joseph Unsworth show beautiful Jersey cows in milk, and Thomas A Mce- Lean, Archd. Fergrson and Lewis H. Jenkins show bulls of this fancy breed.
SHEEP,
The show of sheep is large, and, on the whole, of very fair quality. The exhibitors include Hon. Stewart Burns, A. Boswell, George Tweedy, H. Longworth, F. G. Bovyer, B. E. Wright, John Bell, John Newson, Ewen Cameron, Cephas Nunn, Robert Dewar, William Rattray, Jvhn McGongan, Louis L. Jenkins, John Bow- man, Richard Bowman, Isaac Essory and Jobn Holman. The prize list shows that Messrs. Longworth and Wright are no longer having it all their own way. The prizes are widely dist:ibu ed, proving that first-class s+ ep farming is becoming general throughout the Province.
PIGS.
The show of swine is large—and excellent in Berkshires and York shires. Messrs. E. R. Brew, and Lonis L. Jenkins, George Vessey,and F. L. Haszard, and Thomas A. McLean exhibit very fine Berkshire pigs; and George Crockett and Frank Gates and Thomas Murphy show splendid Yorks. The fat pigs are immense. THE CITY STEAM BAKERY.
Among the foremost special exhibits is that of the City Se.m Rak ry. It is el arranged in & Sp..clvus slow Care, is quibe attractive, and occupies a prominent position -n the Drill Shed. The exhibit consists of many choice brands of Biscuit, Pastry, Syrups, Jams, Jellies, etc., manu- factured by the proprietor of the City Steam Bakery, John Quirk, Esq. Among those on exhibition, we might mention in biscuits, No. 1 Pilot. Family Pilot, Boston Pilot, Soda, Wine, Sugar, Fruit, Lemon, Sultana, etce.; in pastry, Washington, Mince, Cranberry, Raspberry, and Jelley Pies, Tarts, Jelly Squares, Rolls, Sponge Cakes, ete; in Cakes—Fruit, Plain, Citron, Sheet, also a good line of Parker House Rolls,Cream of Tartar Rolls, and German Twists. There is also & splendid show of Syreps, manufactured by Mr. Quirk, such as Pine Apple, Lemon, Raspberry, Vanilla, Sarsaparilla, ete., be- sides Jams and Jellies of all descriptions. The goods manufactured by Mr. Quirk find aready market in the Provinces. They are fresh, superior in quality to those im- ported, and are sold wholesale and retail at rock bottom prices. We wish the City Steam Bakery increased patronage.
TRYON WOOLEN FACTORY.
Mossrs. Reid Brothers have a splendid exhibit of tweeds, manufactured at their mili, Tryon. Jt is arranged like the Charlottetown Woolen Co,’s exhibit, and is relieved by samples of the elegant suits (on mankine), manufactured at Reid Bros’, store in this city. The Tryon Company have been doing a good business during the past year. Besides supplying a large trade on the Island, they export quantities of their stock to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. They manufacture first-class goods, and their exhibit is highly creditable.
MR. JOHN CooMBS’ EXHIBIT.
The exhibit of printing by Mr. John Coombs is highly creditable to that gentle- man. The specimens of binding produced might be placed in competition with more pretentious establishments in the other
provinces. Various specimens of fire printing, executed in Mr. Coombs’ establishment are also exhibited,
and asplerdid display of lobster labels is also made. Mr. Coombs has made a special line of lobster labels. He has manufac- tured them with splendid success, and, we understand, has given every satisfaction to lobster packers. Among the specimens ex- hibited we notice two large labels of the P. E. Island Soap Works, engraved by Mr. Benjamin Bremner and printed by Mr. Coombs. The designs are good, and the work first-class. MR. BRENNAN’S EXHIBIT.
Mr. W. A. Brennan has a'so a very nice exhibit of printing and book-binding done at his establishments in Summerside and Charlottetown.
MR. ©. P. FLETCHER’S EXHIBIT.
Mr, C. P. Fletcher has on exhibition three Organs,manufaectured by the celebrat- ed firm of W. Bell & Co. They are differ- ent styles of Parlor Organs, have mag- nificent cases and are superb in tone. The Beli Organs are so well known they re- quire no puf—rg. They are in great demand, and we learn that Mr. Fletcher annua!ly disposes of one hundred of them in this Province alone.
STUFFED BIRDS.
An interesting exhibit is that of stuffed birds, made by Professor Earle. The epecimens are set up in first-class style, well cased, and present a beautiful appear- ance. The most valuable is, we think, the Blue Heron in Spring plumage, and the Bittern, but there are many other rare birds, such as the great Horned Owl, Eider Duck and Drake, Arctic Owl, Great Nor- thern Diver, large Herring Gull, and a number of smaii birds in a large case. The exhibit reflects credit on Professor Earle. He is a first-class taxidermist.
‘* THE REINDEER BRAND.”
Mr. W. G. Smith, General Agent, is re- presenting ‘‘The Condensed Milk and Canning Company, of Truro, Nova Scotia,” and exhibiting to advantage their condensed milk and condensed coffse. The former is made from pure milk, combined with the best.sugar, and is highly recommended for travellers, holiday parties, sportsmen, infants, etc. The latter is a preparation by which the economical housewife can, at any time, treat her visitors to an excellent cup of coffee, with no more trouble than merely boiling the kettle and pouring the hot water upon it. Mr. Smith supplies the curious visitor to the exhibition with a fragrant draught which cheers but not inebriates, and demonstrates that the condensed coffee is a good thing.

The Show Grounds were thronged with visitors, amongst them many prominent gentlemen from Sister Provinces.
Dennis Murphy, Esq., Manager of the Gas Works, deserves credit for brilliantly lighting the bridge leading from the Drill Shed to the stock grounds.
No prizes were awarded the exhibits of tweeds made by the Charlottetown Woolen Company and Tryon Woolen Company. The imserticn of prizes in the list yesterday was done through imadvertence.
An interesting feature of the Exhibition last night was the Impromptu Concert, which the Secretary, assisted by Mr. Fletcher, Mr. Miller, and a number of young ladies organized, At the close of the performance the Secretary expressed the hope that to-night this Concert would be resumed, and enlarged. The seven or eight magnificent organs,played by the best talent of the city, we trust, will, this even- ing, about 9 o'clock, prove exceedingly in- teresting.
Among the exhibits of textiles, ‘fabrics and wool are two ‘‘crazy quilts,’ which are highly creditable to the exhibitors. One was made by Miss Carrie Rogers, daughter of Benjamin Rogers, Esq. For beauty of design and finish it surpasses any we have yet seen at exhibitions. Miss Rogers deserves to be complimented on her handiwork The other, a superb piece of work, was made by Mrs. Cunningham, Boston, daughter of David Mutch, Esq., of Wheatley River.

News from the Congo.
LIRFUTENANT WISSMANN'S DISGOVERIES ON THE KASAI RIVER,
Despatches just received from the Congo bring further details of the discoveries made by Lieutenant Wissmann, who found the banks of the Kasai River, down to its junction with the Congo, more thickly populated than any other portion of Africa, For 24 hours Lieut. Wissmann had to
navigate between crowds of ferocious cannibals belonging to the Bakoutous tribe.
FEROCIOUS AMAZONS.,
Men and women gathered in thousands on the river banks, shouting, yelling, and ges- tulating furiously. The women were more ferocious than the men, and finally the Bikoutous attacked the expedition in fleets of canoes, the women beating their breasts and throwing spears. Lieutenant Wiss- mann and his men repulsed them aftera hard fought battle, which lasted six hours, killing hundreds of men and women,
A KICH REGION,
The entire region traversed was found to be very rich in ivory and was covered with vast forests of India rubber trees. In shooting a cataract one of Wissn:ann’s canoe’s was wrecked and a dozen cf his blacks were drowned.
THE KASAI RIVER,
The Kasai is a noble river, being in some places ten thousand yards wide. In man parts navigation was blocked by the thou- sands of hippopoiami bathing ia the river Wissmann determined ast:ronomically that the point where the Kasai flows into the Congo is nearly four hundred miles below the point indicated on the maps of Mr. Stanley and other explorers.
