Lord Dunraven on Canada.
Lord Dunraven thinks Canada has a glorious future. In a recent article he says :—
‘‘Even from the point of view of a travel- ler who cares not for field sports, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and in fact all Canada is a country full of interest. It is interesting for many reasens which I have not space to enter into now, but especially so as showing the development of what in the future will be a great nation. For whether in connection with this country, or as independent, or as joined to the United States, or any portion of them, that vast region whichis now called British North America will assuredly seme day support the strongest, most powerful, and most masterful population on the continent of America,”

Blessing the Bells.
The ceremony of blessing the bells at St. Mary’s Cathedral, of Halifax, took place on Sunday last. A dispatch says: Seven of the smaller bells were consecrated at 3 o'clock, and the large one weighing 16,000 lbs., at 7 p.m. The cathedral was thronged with people of all religious denominatious. The choir under the direction of Prof. Hagarty, sang several sacred selections, immediately after which His Lordship Bishop Haley, of Portland, Me., preached an eloquent and appropriate sermon. His Grace Archbishop Hannan, assisted by Revs. Power and Carmody, then proceeded to bless the bless the large bell which oc- cupied a position in the nave near the high altar and was suspended from a huge frame handsomely festooned. ‘The bell received the name ‘St. Mary.” During the anoiat- ment of various parts, the clergy chanted the psalms from David, the choir assisting.

Advices to the 19th state. ‘‘I1t has been blowing a heavy gale of easterly wind here since yester(lay morning, with thunder, light- ning and rain. TheS. 8S. ‘‘ Albert,” with the weekly mails, which arrived. here yesterday morning, has been detained in Pleasant Bay and unable to land her mail at Cape Meale. A large fleet: of tishing vessels has put into the harbor for shelter. Schooner ‘‘ Annie Laurie,” of Arichat, ran aground at the en- trance of Amherst harbor and will have to discharge. She has fifty quintals of codfish, besides outfit. No other casualty reported.— Among the passengers per 8. S. ‘ Albert,” yesterday, was the Hon. Mr. Justice LaFram- boise, of Ontario.—Arrivals since sailing of last steamer : Schooners ‘‘Union,” from Port Mulgrave; ‘‘Silver Lake,”” from Anticosti; **<atie E. Stuart,” from Halifax. Sailed: Schooners * William,” for Spry Bay; ‘‘S. E. Clove,” for Port Mulgrave.

It is reported that the followivg imspec- tiow districts have been fixed under the new Weight snd Measures Act :—New Bruuswick : Kings—-to comprise the Coun- ties of King’s, Albert, Westmoreland, Kent, Norwich, Northumberland, Gloucester and Restigouche. Saint John—to comprise the City of St. John and Counties of St. John, Queens and Charlotte. Fredericton—to comprise the City of Fredericton and Coun- ties ef York, Sunbury, Carleton, Victoria and Madawaska. Nova Scetia: Halifax— to comprise the City of Halifax and Coun- ties of Halifax, Guysboro, Hants, King’s and Lunenburg. Leaving in the afternoon train arrive at the Lorne at 6 p. m., return- ing in the morning, leave the Lorne at 8.15, arrive in the City at 9.55. Carriages may be had at the Hotel for visitors.
