We again call attention to this sub- jeet, because we feur there are many, even intelligent persons, who do not realize the importance of pure air 1h the sleeping-room. We know that many sleep in rooms where all windows are shut, with no way ol ventilating into the chimney if there be one, where all the fresh air they get is what forces itself through the cracks about the win- dows and doors. Those who sleep in such an atmosphere are hardly aware now foulit will become by morning, or how injurious to health the same will be.* Air that is repeatedly breathed over, can not be healthful and life- giving. Let any one who has doubt in regard to the condition of the airina close room, where two or more persons have breathed it over and over during the night, go inte pure, out of-doors air, and then in @ short time come back into the sleeping-room before it has been aired, and they will in many cases find the air of the room almost intoler- able. The true way is ventilate every sleeping-room.

It there be an opon fire-place, that will help; and if in addition to this, one of the windows be left Open a little, the air will be so cianged as to be good. If no fire- place, there may be ventilators possibly that enter the chimney at the same point above that will answer the same yurpose as the fire-place ; but if there Be neither, then more than one window should be open to a greater or less @x- tent, depending somewhat upon the condition of the weather outside, and then a circulation may be had that will so change the atmosphere of the sleep- ing apartment as to leave no doubt as to its healthfalness. We know from experience that plenty of pure air is very beneficial in the sleeping-room, and possibly we go to the extreme when we open one or sometimes two windows top and bottom in addition to an open grate and a ventilator in the room; but we have thus far suffered no inconvenience, but on the contrary have, we believe, ob- tained mach good. Persons should, if possible, occupy upper chambers rather than rooms on the lower floor for sleey~ ing apartments, and large ones rather than small. if more attention were paid to some of these things, we are sure all would be greatly benefitted.

How to Become Graceful.

The Young Woman's Journal thinks a refined, graceful figure can be acquired by any woman. It says. “The best grace is perfect naturalness.” Still you must study yourself, and form your manners by the rule of that art which is but the carrying out of the law of nature. But if itis your nature to be forever assuming some unpicturesque, ungraceful attitude, pray help nature with a little art. Ifyouare stout avoid the smallest chair in the room, and be sure you sitin it, not lean back in it with your hands folded in front of you just below the line of your waist, es- pecially while the present fashion lasts. {f you are thin do not carry yourself with your chin protruding aod your spinal column curving like the bowl of @ spoon.

Do not wear flimsy materials with- out a ruffle, or puff, or flounce, to fill up the hard outlines of your bad figure, so cruelly defined by the tightly pulled- back draperies.

Study the art of dress. We once knew a very plain woman who dressed go tastefully that it was an absolute pleasure to look at her.

If you have been moping until you are sick with the thought of your own hopeless ugliness, be up and doing. Forget your disappointments, forget the past and the sneers of your own family over the mistakes that you have made.”

For Levying an Assessment on Real Property in the City of Charlottetown.

(Passed by the City Council, 12th April, 1879.)

\ HEREAS, it is necessary and expedient

to pass a Bye-Law for the purpose of levying an Assessment on the rental of Free- hold and Leasehold Property in the City of Charlottetuwn, for City and School purposes, for the current year, ending on the ‘T'wenty- sixth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty.

Be it therefore enacted by the City Council of the City of Charlottetown as follows: —

1. There shall be paid by the occupants or owners of freehokl or leasehold property, within the City of Charlottetown, for city and school purposes, the following sum, that is to say, the sum of Ten Cents on every Dollar of the rental for the current yeir, ending on the 26th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty, according to the valuations entered against the names of each and every person in the Valuation Book of real property made by the Assessors of the City of Charlottetown, and returned by the said Assessors to the said City Council on the seventeenth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy - nine.

2. In cases where the Occupant named in the Assessment Book of Real Property, made by the said Assessors of the City of Charlotte- town, shall have left the premises so assessed before the time of giving the notice of Assess- ment required by Law, such notice shall be served upon the person or persons actually in possession; and if the premises be vacant, then such notice shall be served upon the owner or owners thereof, or his or their agent, and such owner or owners shall be deemed, for the purposes of this Law, the occupant or occupants; and such occupant or occupants, owner or owners, in the cases aforesaid, shall be severally liable for the payment of the sum entered against the name of the original occu- pant or occupants in the Assessment Book of Real Property, made up by the said Assessors of the said City, and deposited with the City Clerk, subject to the same right of appeal as the person or persons originally assessed was or were entitled to.

_ 3. In cases where tenement houses contain- ing two or more occupants, and where either the owner or one occupant was originally as- sessed, the City Collector shall have power and authority to divide and apportion such Assessment between the several occupants, in

roportion to their several or respective rents in order that the notices for Assessment may be served on such occupants in due form.
