ast weekend we decided to hit Apoth-

ecaries for a birthday party / review.

Apothecaries is a new spot in Charlottetown, where the Dispensary used to be (Downtown, beside Subway).

We called ahead to make plans, and were told that the kitchen closed at 3 pm, but we were reassured that ‘‘bar-food’’ would be served until 9 pm. So we got there around 8:30, and the party goers were go- ing to meet us later. Un- fortunately there was no food left when we arrived. The lady that served us apologised, and brought us a cheese/meat tray and some nachos on the house.

Aldera: | was a bit disap- pointed that the food was gone... I was HUNGRY. However, they were very nice tous, especially when they discovered it was our birthdays. The trays were anice touch, and even bet- ter, they gave us happy hour prices all night in addition to a free birthday drink each. The band play- ing was Dry Toast; they

Apothecaries: Too much volume?

Jennifer: | too was a bit disappointed because I love food and a chance to eat is always exciting. Also, the people who work there were very nice and very apologetic. I was having a great time until the band started. IT WAS TOO LOUD. Did anyone tell you about the Lemon drop shooter we had? It was great. Did I mention that the band was too loud? I think all of our group was willing to stay at Apothecaries longer but we wanted to talk and it was next to impossible. All in all it was a good time- I had my first-ever shooter and discovered that I don’t like olives!! I'll rate Apoth- ecaries 2.5 cookies only because we called ahead to see when food was be- ing served and when we arrived there was no food. That is bad management on their part (everyone in my management class just groaned over that one).

Shannon: Lagree entirely with Al and Jen. Apoth- ecaries is a great hangout if you’re not worried about your hearing and

were very good (way to go Peter) but way too loud. In such a little place, they deafened us all. To be honest, I’m not sure if I liked it there. The staff was friendly, but it was just a feeling I had. On a high note, the bartender showed us a great new shot. If you go, I highly recommend the ‘‘Lemon Drop”. | think it would keep the alcoholics and those of us who don’t drink much both happy. I'll give Apothecaries 2 1/2 cookies. (or Lemon Drops)

you aren’t hungry. I’m not sure if service would be as good if we had just dropped in, but they treat a party well. Put in earplugs and I would recommend them for any group going out after dinner for a birthday. I am willing. to try the restaurant half before making a final decision about the place. I will give Apothecaries 2.5 as well - it would have been higher except for the mix-up about kitchen

hours.

Kathy Giesbrecht seeks her fortune

ast Tuesday I went to Baba’s Lounge, L somewhat grudgingly, at the request of the newspaper editor. I was sent there to have my fortune told by the tarot card reader who appears there every Tuesday from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. It was my first time going to Baba’s and my first time having my cards read. I was pretty sceptical of the whole thing. I thought that the reader would talk to me for awhile then ‘‘read’’ from the cards everything that I had told her. She didn’t. She told me a lot of things that I hadn’t thought about, but made a lot of sense. I was pretty impressed. The whole thing took about twenty minutes and didn’t cost mea cent except for the drink I ordered while I was waiting for my turn. I was, by the way, waiting for an hour and half because I got there late, and by late I mean 8:30. GO EARLY if you don’t want to wait. Waiting is not the worst experi- ence in the world, though; the staff are friendly and it’s a pretty decent place to go and spend a few hours on what might have been a boring Tuesday night.
