The clrances of the World's Fair manage- ment getting clear of the finaneial woods are growing brighter, The big show is making profivs at last.
—It is reported that the mackerel fleet, numbering about one hundred and twenty sail, are just returning to Gloucester, and that the fishing has been the best for years.
— The wheat acreage in Manitoba the current year isa million three thousand, agains. ‘last year eight hundred and seventy-five thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine.
—The sensation caused by the produc tion of documents said to have been stolen from the British embassy in Paris is pro- nounced a hoax. The documents were forgeries. The publisher and another of the forgerers have been arrested.

—Professor Harcourt, in the Guardian, suggests to those whose hay crops will be light that they prepare a piece of land and sow it with peas and oats, oats and vetches, millet or Hungerian grass, or anything that will makea

—Mr. Wiman has an article ou the Lib eral convention in Harper's Weekly. —The Rev. J. Edgsr Hill, of Montreal, lately addressed the troops of the city in the drill hall. His words were enthusias- tically loyal, as the following extract well illustrates, and were received with deep in- terest and respect : :

—The export trade of Cavada still con- tinues to boom and the total value of trade for the present fiscal year promises to far surpass any year since Confederation. The total for May was $8,277,768, of which $7.583,811 was the produce of Canada and $603,957 the produce of other countries, showing an increase in the former of $1,- 413,155 over the same month last year and a decrease of $306,035 in the latter. For the eleven months of the fiscal year the total exports have reached the enormous figure of $101,785,370, of which $91,143,- 270 is the produce of Canada and $10,642, - 100 the produce of other countries.
