The first beat of the 3-minute was a close race between Reyburn and Kiondyke until shortly after the } mile was pas-ed when Klondyke collided with Reyburo’s sulky, throwing the latter off his feet, and came in ahead, with Vernon River Boy second, Reyburn and All Right Jr., in order vamed. The judges put Klondyke back to fourth place for not keeping his position on the track and awirded tie beat as per summary.

The second heat was longer in getting started, and thejindges warned the drivers against prolonged scoring, which hal the desired effect, and the word was given on the sixth score. Thedriver of Ail Right Jr., bowever, did not hear it and hauled up at ¢he first turn until he noticed that the others were racing when he set sail after them and made good his position inside the distaace point. The pole horse was passed by Reyburn at the quarter but quickly recovered his position aid was vot again headed. Reyburn com- ing = good secoud,iKlondyke third, All Right Jr., fourth.

In the -bird heat the most exciting con- test was between K'ondyke and All Right Jr., for third place, both horses doing well; bat All Right Jr., proved tuo speedy for the son of Dean Swift and then parsed Reybarn and came in second, proving that hisewner has a game and epeedy animal,

Iu the 24@ class the following horses started, viz: Gay Pilot, bs by Black ‘Pilot, 8. Gay, Pownal; Little Joker, ch g by Unknewa, W. Jenkins, Georgetown; Bye and Bye, br m by Administrator Right, O. Hughes, Montegue. In the first heat Pilot hat the pole and he and Little Joker bad an in- teresting time to the third turn where ‘Litle Joker caught one of hia boots and was not afterwards in :t. Bye aad Bye,true to ker name, came along at the heai of the stretch and won by a good length or so

Tise second and third heats were between Bve and Bye and Gay Pilot, as Little Joker was drawn after the first heat. The speedy son of Pi.ot from Pownal showed some good bursts of speed, but waa not so steady and strong-going as Bye aud Bye, the second and third Time, 2.52, 2.54, 255.

Altogether the day passed off very well, although there was some di-orderly con- duet about the dancing booth in the even- ing. The proceeds are to be devoted to building a town hall for Georgetown, and the committee, Mrssre. Mathieson, Jenkins and Jes. R. McDonald, who are most active in the matter, are to be congratulet- ed an their succesefal efforts.

At night a concert took place in the Court House which was weil a' tended. proved very enjoyable aad realized the sum of $35.

Sister St. Isabel, Superior, and Sisters St. Hedwich and Candide, of the Grey Nuns attached to the Charlottetown Hos- pital, who went to Quebec a few weeks ago to atieni the annual revreat at the Mother House of their order, have not returued. Their places are filled by St. Dorothy, St. Philip and St. Mary. St. Isabel is succeed- ed as Superior by St. Honorine, who has been attached tothe institution for the past three years. St. Dorothy was here for e-veral years prior to 1894, when she returned to Quebec, and St. Mary was attached to the old hospital bere during the smallpox troubles in 1885. St. Bedwich had been attached to the hospital for ten years or so and had charge of the dispen- savy. May every success attend these good ladies in their chosen avocation.—

WEDDING BELLS.

A gay and bappy wedding party ar- sembied yesterday evening at the residence of William McPhail, E-q., Orwell, to witness the marriage of his fair and beau- tifai daughter, Catherine Elizabeth, to Mr. Samuel Martw, of Heatherdale. The siiken knot was tied by the Rev. D. B. McLeou, of Crwell,who was the Reva. Daniel McLean, Donald Mc: Donald Campbell, of Birchhill, Roderick McLean, of Valleyfield, and W. G.

McPhail, a sister of the bride, performed the duties of bridesmaid, while Dr. Martin,

of Boston, a obroiher of the groom, supported him. The bride, who looked

charming, wore a cream casbmere and sik dress with bridal veil and orange blossoms, and carried an e2quisite boquet. Tae bridesmaid was attired in a handsome gown of canary-colurei eilk and chiffon. Miss Laura Young, of Charlottetown, pre- sided at the piano and played the wedding march. The li-t of invited guests was largeand included representations f:om Charlottetown, Gedrgetown, Montague Bridge and Valleyfield. The presents were very numerous and costly testifying to the popularity of the young couple. At the close of the wedding service a sumptuous repast was provided the guests which did credit to the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. McPhail. Mr.and Mrs Martin drove ie Cirsrlouetown last nignt and started tbis morning Oo au extended tour through the Provioces. DALVEY AND THE ACADIA.

Sir,— A few days ago your correspon— dent in company with a friend eubraced the opportunity of visiting the palatal summer residence at Gaand Tracadie, of the American millionaire McDonald, who recently purchased a considerable tract of land on the North Shore, throughout which is scattered several miniature lakes surrounded by greves of bushes, thus ad- ding to the beauty of the location. Evi- dently Mr. McDonald had an eye for the picturesque in nature when he selected this magnificent spot for a summer home. The home is situated cn a kuoll, with tlower beds surrounding it on all sides among the trees, together with neat and commodiouszoutbui dings. Its comtianuding appearance strikes the be- holder as something grand aud imposing. The only defect to our eyes was the un- favorable approaches thereto inland, as the roads were rough end extremely narrow, scarcely admitting of two carriages passing each other. Nearby is the hotel of I. C. Hall, Esq., which is# place of considerab'e resort during ihe summer months, where bathing, boating, fishing, etc., can be pro- cured at all hours. It 1s located close by the harbor and overlooks the ocean, with tne sandhills looming up in the distance. Iu going to the Acadia you may take the train from the city to Bedford Station, thence due north through the fine settlement of Grand Tracalie, where well cultivated farms aru comfortable homes areseen On every hand. The drive by carriage to the north shore is very enjoyable,as the distance from Charlottetowa is sufficiently long to give a good appetite for a sumptous dinner at the Acadia, and time enough to visit the various places of interest in that locality.

In two coffins dated 1630 recently dug up in the foundations of an old monastry in the Rue de Bearn in Paris, the skulls were found to be filled with white crystals of bicalcinate of phosphorus, an extremely rare sutstance. It was found once before under similar circums ances when a coffin was opened in 1807.
