Again, he said the Debt was placed in a very much more advantageous position. In view of the fact that the rate of interest on money has been very much lower since Mr. McKenzie attained to power than it was while Sir John remained at the head of affiirs, this ought to be true. Jut it is not.

is exactly the same spirit which led Mr,

Welsh to threaten Mr. DeBlois last fall

with immediate loss of office if he dared to | vote for Mr. Pope. His attempt failed for Mr. DeBlois is not the man to submit to

and is in some degree encouraged by the | conduct of the Conservatives in the Local Government. They and their supporters are too often afraid to do anything in Dos minion politics, for fear they might ‘*em- barrass the Local Government.’’ No such scruples vex the souls of their colleagues. Mr. Davies was loud upon the hustings in praise of Mr. McKenzie. Mr. Stewart was im constant attendance on the Premier, and lent him tbe vast influence cf his

Esquires, two of Het Mejesty’s Justices of the Peace for King’s County,on Wednesday, the Ist inst., on a charge of larceny. ‘The evidence given azainst her was suflicient to sustain the charge, and she was accordingly sent to jaul to await her trial at the supreme Court.

It is reported in olticial circles that the Russians were again defeated at Plevna, The Grand Duke Nicholas narrowly escaped being captured at Eskesaghra. ‘en thousand men are at present forti- fying Gallipoli, Tho Servians will have forty thousand men ona war footing by the twelfth of August. The Russians are in great force at Boghaz, where a battle is imminent, unless they abandon the Balkans.
