Farnit-1' Broii'n's 'Buy and the (lid Hermit were visiting the pond oi Paddy tlic Beaver deep in the Lirccn Forest. They were sitting quietly where they could see all over the pond, but were not likely to be seen by anyone there. They hope hoping to sce Paddy and Mrs. Paddy. Those two are bash- iul folk of a retiring diiipoaitlon ulicn .anyone they do not know vii-ll appears.

"Lhstcn Someone is coming!" uhispcred thc Old Hermit. From behind them came the sound oi wings and a sort of ceplng voice. "Beauty the Wood Duck." whisp- crcii the Old Hermit before they Fl'('lI saw the swift flying little Duck.

Passing almost over their heads a small Duck came down on the nalcr over near the lionse of Pad- dy the Beaver. There he rested for a moment smoothing his plumage and getting every feather aettied in place. Then he swam over to Paddy's house and climbed up on the roof. There he was in full sun- light.

suddenly appeared in the water close to the house. It was the head of Paddy the Beaver. Beauty looked down at him without fear. They were old lrlcndl. Then Beau- ty waddlod down the sloping root into the water as Paddy started to climb up on the roof. Paddy was as homely as Beauty was lovely. Paddy is big. awkward and. on land is clumsy. His great yellow cutting teeth iihow at all times. lila queer-looking tail is thick and broad and without hsir. There is no, doubt about it, Paddy the Beav- cr is s homely-looking fellow.

Now as Beauty the Wood Duck swam back and forth. and in little circles. close to the brown roof of Paddy's house out in the water, there was a strange contrast be- tween thtsc two woodland folks One was Is homely as the other was beautiful to the eyes. Were they to be judged by looks alone no one would ever give a second look at Paddy. Yet of all the peo- ple living in the Green Forest, the Beaver folk are among the most wonderful and the most in- teresting. The lovely little Duck swlmining there was beautiful to see, but there was nothing else about him to compare in interest with his homely neighbor up on the roof of that little house out in the water.

"It is what one does. not how one looks. that really counts." whispc :i the Old Hermit. "Right out, there before us is a perfect example of this."

Farmer Brown's Boy nodded. "I know." said he. "Beauty the Wood Duck delights all who see him lust because he is so lovely. But he is mostly looks. Some folks seem to be that way. At Paddy the Beaver no one would look twice if they didn't know how won- derful he is, See, there comes Mrs. Beauty."

Sure enough, coming from ano- ther direction altogether was ano- thcr small Duck just the size of Beauty. She was neat and trim and in a modest way pretty. But one would hardly notice her with Beauty around. He hastened to meet her now as she came Iwim- ming toward him.

Charge Peron Ordered Flog Burning Incident

BUENOS AIRES (APi-Govcrii- ment investigators charged Satur- day that Juan Peron. the deposed dictator. personally ordered the burning of an Argentine flag so it could be blamed on Roman Cath- olics. '

The incident was said to have occurred the night of June ll. 1955. when C a t h o l l c s demonstrated against Peron's dictatorship at the height (I his feud with the Church.

The investigators repored that Peron. interior minister Angel Ga- briel Borlenghl. federal police chief Miguel Gambos and 18 others. mostly policemen, were involved.

They reported Peron gave ord- ers to Borlenghi who passed them on to police. A flag was burned at a police station, the report said. and the tattered remains carried to a flagpole outside the congress building where photographs were taken. Police burned some rags and placed Lilies around the bot- tom of the flagpole, it was alleged.

The reported flag burning was used by the Peron regime the next day to whip tip a campaign against Catholics. who were accused of un- patriotic acts.
