In View of the recent small crowds aiie-nding Big Four games here at the local Forum. it makes one wonder if local fans evcr sit down and give a little practical thought to the importance and ef- fect that such small gates have on the general picture of the hockey situation here. Do they realize that such practice of ”just attend- ing the odd game" may undo everything that has taken months of hard work and planning to build up.

As far as can be learned from local officials at the moment, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as excess profits arc concerned. From now on there will be no extra capital to fall back on, and expenses witl have to be met from the returns of the two home games per week. it takes very little work with pencil and paper to figure out what that means-bigger houses at each home game if the financial upkeep of the team is to be main-iained-if not. well it just means no -money, no team. and no hockey.

Take the last two games played here on Monday and Wednesday of this week. Playing against Mcncton on Monday, some 690 fans paid admission (190 of these being school children at forty cents per head). On Wednesday against Saint John. the crowd was better. but still was under the

At the start of the season wh-er. officials first planned to get back into Big Four competition, it was tallied that approximately 2000 cash custo-mcrs per home game would be necessary to keep fi- nances on an even keel, and that still stands. How can any fan ex- pect them to meet that commit- ment whcn they are only getting that or less in 0. total of two games. It just can't be done. So far this -season the club hash": once gone to the public for extra donations to keep things going. They don't want to. All they are asking is that the fans turn out to support the team. if ilhat is done there will be no difficulties.

The big question that arises is: What are the fans going to do about it? Arc they going to let it fall through. or are they going to rally to their support and get good hoc- key enjoyment while doing it. The Islanders Club have certain- ly done their share. They have given the Province in hockey team that is second to none in the Marltimes. A team that has ac- complished more than anyone ever -dreamed of when the first big step -to the return of senior hockey was made.
