Fed up with "Fed-Up Women"

I am fed up with the ‘‘Fed-Up Women’’. If these women are concerned enough to lodge these complaints against UPEI, they should be adult enough to sign their names.

There are several things in this column I would like to mention. First ofall, tuition only pays 25% of the cost of running the university, and professors’ salaries have little to do with tuition costs. So I don’t think we are paying the professors. Secondly, in reference to the state-

ment ‘‘why doesn’t the professor ever tell us where we are in [the book]’’, why are you

unable to look up references to class material in the book yourself? If you are paying $150 for books (your figure of $400 minus $249 for tuition), these books must have tables of con- tents. Thirdly, in reference to the whining tone ‘of the entire piece, who do you think you are to decide that the profs ‘‘think they know more than the text’’?

There are some valid points said in this piece, namely that a university education is too expensive for many people, there are some good profs, and a prof who could be thought of as a mentor would be an interesting idea. My point in all this is to say that the university is overcrowded and under-equipped. If the Fed- Up Womenare having this many problems with the system, maybe they should take some time off and open the system up to more mature students.

You got the wrong bridge, pal

The so-called ‘‘bridge to Hell’’ you refer to in last week’s X-Press just so happens to be the path to a brighter future. As to this mystic “Island way of life’’, I say wake up and smell the coffee! If this ‘‘Island way’’ means a chronic 20% unemployment rate, thanks but no thanks!!! I’ve had it with editorials like last week’s and people who think they have all the

These so-called ‘‘Friends of the Island’’ are NO friends as far as I’m concerned. If they want to live in isolation with their backward mystical idea that the world ceases to exist beyond pure, clean PEI, fine. But why should they dictate
