The bode of Jefferson Davis which ar- rived at Richmond from Louisiana on Wednesday last, was again consigned to the grave that afternoon. From daylight until 9 o'clock, hundreds of strangers and city people passed through the capitol and viewed the flower-laden casket. From 9 toll o'clock about 5,000 public sckool children passed by the bier, each dropping flowers as @ tribate of affection. At 340 v'clock the body was removed to the gaisson drawn by six white horses capar- isoned in black, and the line of march was teken up fer Hollywood. Houses along the line were almost with- out exception draped in black, and the national, state and confederaie flags, the latter predominating, were either floating to the breeze or worked in the funeral colors, The streets along the route, yards, and windows of the dwellings were packed with people. Nothing of a tumultous and noisy character marked the day or progress of the cortege, while the scene was a most imposing one though the whole city seemed to be in mourning. On arriving at Holly- wood cemetery the distinguished guests, the Louisiana escort, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and also the Georgia delegations, which came on with the funeral cortege, descended from their carriages and formed on the circle which contains the graves. The infantry formed the outer circle, and be- tween the two marched the Confederate veterans. When the military movement was completed, the coffin, the open grave, and the family were surrounded by three solid walls of men. Outside this triple circle was a dense crowd of thousands. As soon as everything was in readiness the Stonewall band of Staunton played a funeral dirge. Rev. Mr. Mumford then read a selection of Scripture. Rev. Dr. W. W. Landrum then read the hymn, “How Firm a Foundation,” which was sung by the crowd. At the close of the hymn Dr. Hoge offered prayer. Rey. Dr. Barton, of Norfolk, pronounced the bene- diction. Immediarely after the benediction the casket was lowered into the grave. After the bugle signal came taps, and the infantry fired a salute which announced that the services were over. The column then moved to Gettysburg hill where the andual memorial services of the Ladies’ Hol'ywood Association teok place, which consisted of the graves of 6,000 Confederate soldiers. Orrawa, June 2.—Mr. King, the Alaska boundary commissioner, returned from Northern British Celumbia to-day, after seeing kis seven parties started on their surveying tour. None of the remain in Alaska during the winter, but return here to write up reports. Mr. King will shortly leave for Passamaquoddy Bay, where he and Mr. Mendenhall, his commissioner, will at once proceed to mark the boundary in that vicinity. As is well known that boundary is there defined by treaty. He must understand the nature of all those influences by which health is broken down and _re- stored, and by what means disease, suffering and death may be averted. Dr. Johason further says that nothing con- tributes so much to the support of quackery as the present ineufficiency of medical knowledge. Men do not, he says, easily abandon hope but as readily put faith in ignorant pretenders as drowning men catch at straws.
