As I advanced it opened up somewhat, so that I made better progress. A few half- overgrown paths meandered here and there, but I avoided thyse and kept under the concealment of the trees. Never shall I forget that dreadful walk. Every time a twig snapped I sprang into the air, under the impression that I was shot.
