The Natural History Society is supporting the Trust’s new fund raising effort by fielding a team of birders to assist in the Island Nature Trust’s First Autumn Birding Classic Birdathon. We would greatly appreciate any pledges that you would be willing to make for our team’s effort. These funds will be used for the natural areas conservation program.

This project will not only raise funds for the Island Nature Trust(s natural area conservation programs, it will enhance our knowledge of bird occurrence for future revisions of the Field Checklist of Birds. The results will be published in the next Island Naturalist and hence, they will become part of the permanent record of bird sightings for the province.

The PEI Environmental Network will host the EarthCare Fair at Macphail Woods on Saturday, September 30th on the grounds of Macphail Homestead. The rain date is October 1. The following events are planned:

2:30 - workshop: "Global Climate Change" with Louise Comeau, a climate change authority from the Sierra Club of Canada who is conducting a nation wide tour to inform Canadians about changes to our climate, regional impacts, and mitigative efforts.

NORTH ATLANTIC FISHERY

The Institute of Island Studies is publishing Volume 3 of "An Island Living Series" titled The North Atlantic Fishery: Strengths, Weaknesses and Challenges. This book examines the fisheries of the Faroes, Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island. It does this through a collection of four essays from the international conference, "An Island Living: Patterns of Autonomy and Dependence in the Small Islands of the North Atlantic" and three new essays addressing areas where information. was lacking.

The book will be available from the Institute in October for $24.95.
