Elect Officers In 4th Kings

Mr. William Whiteway. Dover. was apppointed president of the Progressive Conservative Associa- tion for fourth district of King's it the annual meeting held at Mur- ray Harbor last night.

other officers include Vice Pre- sident. Leslie Stuart. Whim Road: Secretary. Charles Richards. Mur- ray Harbor; County Representa- tive. Robert Whiteway. Brooklyn; and Provincial Representative. George Wright. Lower Montague. The meeting was presided over by the dhalrman, Mr. William Whiteway, who appointed the nom- inating committee comprising Messrs. Ethan Stewart. J. K. Mao- Donald and Harold Bell.

Mr. Charles MacQueid. provin- cial secretary of the Progressive Conservative Association. gave a short address respecting district organization. and the duty of the district officers to see that the polls are organized in an effective manner.

Mr. George I-l. Hoes. M. P.. for Toronto Broadview. Ont.. spoke eloquently on the election issues presenting the Conservative pro-

gram and reviewing the Liberal regime during the past eighteen years.

party during its terms of office. and went on to discuss the nation- al issues of the day. At the con- clusion of his speech Mr. MacDon- ald urged the party workers to organize for the campaign. and to work wholeheartedly for the sup- port of the party.

IN TIEMORIAM

J. HASIPDEN HAWKINS

The death occurred suddenly in Guernsey Cove of one of the best- known residents. Mr. J. llampden Hawkins, in his 72nd year. on June 29. Mr. liawkins had been in good health up until a day or so before his death. He had just completed his evening chores and came back to his home when doe th intervened.

Mr. Hawkins was a. life-long re- sident of Guernsey Cove where everyone knew him as a reliable energetic hard worker. He received great guy from his farm work.

Besides his devotion to his tem- poral work. he was also devoted to charitable and religious works. He was a. faithful .attendant at his church every Sabbath Day. Mr. liawkins fully exemplified himself in the knowledge that in this world he was here not only to gain a livelihood but to live a life.

His funeral service was conduct- ed from his late residence on July 2 to Murray Harbour United Church. The Auditorium was in- sufficiently large to seat the large congregation who gathered to pay their respect to an honored friend and neighbor. The funeral service was conducted by his minister. Rev. D. Wallace MacPherson, who spoke from the text: "He labored till the going down of the sun". Dr. T. H. Hodgson of Digby assisted at the service. Hymns sung were "Rock Of Ages”. "We Cannot Think Of Them As Dead". and ”Abide with Me".

He was laid to rest in Murray Harbour Cemetery by the follow- ing bearers: Messrs. Silas l-lugh. Roy Brooks. Nathan Irving. Curtis Penn.V., Pei-ley Harris, and Harry White.

Besides his sorrowing widow (nee Pmsey Machon) he leaves to mourn I. brother. Waldo. at Guern- sey Cove. and a sister, Marie (Mrs, Warren Adams).
