There are now arriving 1,000 bays of raw sagar forthe refisery, which land- ed at Halifax, ex ‘‘Juliet,” from Germany, and was shipped per the I. C. K. A New Sreamer.—The Burreli-Johnson Iron Co, of Yarmouth, have entered into a contract with the Anglo-French Steams!ip Co. to build & steamer of 510 tons, to be finished by next August. It is to be built aad titted here and will be employed on the route between Halifax and St. Pierre-et-Miq. We are glad to see such work as this being done in this country, where we have such uorivall: d facilities, instead of having it done abroad.—

The Standards Rome correspondent says that the Propaganda will commence on fuesday next to examine certain of Erring- tons proposals in regard to the line of conduct to be pursued by Irish clergy, with a view to the better severance of their con- nection with the agitators of Ireland. Especially does the attitude of American Fenians require further action.

The Accident on the Grand Trunk.
Toronto, Jan. 4.
Three more victims of the railway acci- dent have died making twenty-eight deaths up to the present. The excitement over the dreadful collision continues unabated. Actions will be brought against the Grand Trunk Reilway in every case for heavy damages. Mr. Bell, sdlicitor of the Grand Trunk, arrived last night, to enquire into the condition of those who have lost their bread earners.

Live Siock in Jeopardy.
Curcaco, Jan. 4.
A train of twenty cara of live stock was anowed under on Tuesday night, since which time the animals have been without food or water. Although several engipes were sent down, the train could not be reached, and the party returned, some of them being badly frost-bitten. It is be- lieved the stock perished. To-day the thermometer is standing at 14 below zero at lp. m.
License Districts. Orrawa, Jan. 4.
The official Gazette for establishing the license districts, under the Liquor License Act of last Session, will be issued next week. In Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, the license districts will be co-terminous with the counties as a general rule.

Many famous men of letters in former times have held ‘‘night caps” of one kind to be ‘the proper inspiration; but the brain-workers in this more sober age should clearly take advantage of the return of milder weather to lay in a stock of night caps in the /iteral sense.
