Greece will Withdraw Troops from Crete aud Appeal to Powers.
Lonpex, April 28.—Everything points to the conclusion of the war by the imter- vention of the Powers.
Reports of the fall of the Greek Ministry are confirmed. It is probable that a coali- tion cabinet will be formed.
The situation at Athens 1s very grave as a result of the rapid development of the revelutionary feeling. This condition of things appears to have resulted largely from the cessation of hostilities in Epirus.
The correspondent of the Times at Athens says that the popular ferment has been partly sllayed bythe dismissal of Prince Constantine’s staff, though the most extreme portion of the press still demands the recall of the Crown Prince and Prince Nicholas.
Continuing, the despatch says: ‘Indeed it looks probable that to-morrow will see the end of the whole business. There is reason to believe that the Government is contemplating the withdrawal of the Greek troops from Crete and an appeal to the powers to settle the trouble. This change upon the part of the Government is due to Edhem Pasha having intimated hie intention of marching upon Athens.”

Liberal-Conservatives True to Their Principles.
Orrawa, April 28.—Controller Patter son resumed the debate on tbe tariff bill yesterday afternoon. He claimed that it was only incidentally protective. He spoke for abeut an hour, and was followed by Nicholas Flood Davin with a lively ad- dress, in the course of which an interesting incident occurred. Mr. Davin said that he had heard the Government had received a despatch from one of the secretaries of state saying that Her Majesty’s Govern- ment was pleased with tne expression of loyalty, but that the preference jnvelving the treaty could not be sanctioned. He asked Hon. Mr. Davies, who was leading the House pro tem, whether or not the report was true. Davies said: “I don’t see why I should answer such a question asthat. Thebhon. gentleman seems to know everything.” “This.” said Mr. Davin, “is the manner of the Gov- erament. They make no answer to questions like this, which we have a right to ask and the public ought to have answered. Mr. Davin described the Governments, attitude as higbly theat- rica]. The Finance Minister was perform - ing the tariff skirt dance. The Ministry was described as “an orgauized perfidy” and the measure before the House as meeting Johnson’s phrase, “a conglomerate mass <f heterogeneous matter.”
J. Ross Robinson, Independent, of Toronto, said that on the tariff issue he was a follower of Sir Charles Tupper. The Government had certainly stolen the other party’s clothes; but he proposed to follow the old Leader. clothes, or no clothes. Mr. Laurier had, he said, attacked the policy of protection in the only way it could be successfully attacked by a long and protracted siege. Direct assault would.be vain. Mr. Laurier’s only chance was by disguise movement and strategy. Already the enemy were within the breastwork and there was danger of them taking their citadel. The debate was adjourned.
The Opposition Members and Senators held their ,second caucus of the session yesterday. Some discussions took place on the tariffand the opinion was unani- mously and emphatically expressed that the Liberal-Conservatives would resist any departure from the policy of protec- tion by the general Or specia! tariff.
It is not yet decided whether an amend- ment will be proposed to the tariff resolu- tioa before the House.

Since England has done #0 many things along that line lately, would it not be prudent for Scotland and Ireland to unite and purchase the Sandwich Ielands, and thereby add a little strength to their crumbling fortunes.
