MR. RHODES’ NEW SCHEME.

The Plans and ~/Frospects of the Bulawayo Zambesi Line. London, July 20.—The new survey

which Mr. Cecil ‘Rhodes has just under- taken from Bulawayo to Gweicand onto Sariba gorge, on the Zambesi river, is the initial section of 200 miies of the railway from Bulawayoto Fort Abercorn, atthe lower extremity of Lake Tanganyika,

Native labour is so scarce, and so much in demand, that 25s. is paid weekly for their noekilled work.

Haying is well advanced in this section of the country, and the crop is an abun- dant one, ir consequence the farmers are busy and business is quiet.
