Creech was livid, and his eyes glared on me full of the devil; but I kept him under with the pistol, and drove him, sullen, up to Caljpso. Vaulting into the smidie, I turned and took off my hat to him, with a mocking tongue; hut in that instant, when as my back was to- wards him, Dan had skipped into the thicket, and now I heard him scramb- ling through the bushes, yelling and whistling as he went. I was not afraid of him or his creature, but I did not design to be caught, and so set Caly pso’s heels to work. But just as I did so there came up a clatter of hoofs from the yard near by, and I knew that Creech was upon my track. Calypso flew forwail like a swallow, and at the same moment the noise of a pistol spread echoes abroad, and a bullet snipped a corner from my hat. Be it enacted by the City Council of the City of Charlottetown as follows:—

ist. The rate of assessment on Real Estate for general Civic purposes under said Statute, for the year commencing the first day ot Jan- uary, A D 1596, and ending the thirty-first day of December, A D 1896, is hereby specified and fixed at the rate of one per cent on every dol- lar of the value of Real Estate, as assessed by the Assessors of the said City of Charlotte- town in the General Assessment Book and Valuation Roll of ali Reali Estate and Person- al Property liable to taxation in said City, and of all persons liable to pay YFcll Tax therein, made and duly returned by them on the eleyenth day of April, A D 1896.

2nd. The rate of assessment on Personal Property tor such general Civic purposes, for the year commencing the first day of January, A D 1896, and ending the thirty-first day oi December, A D 1896, is hereby specified and fixed at the rate of one per cent on every dol- lar of the value of Personal Property as as- sessed by the Assessors of the said City in the said General Assessment Book and Valuation Roll, made and duly returned by them as

Beit enacted by the City Council of the City of Charlottetown as follews :—

Ist That upon the refusal or neglect of any owner or occupier of any house, ware house cellar, yard, field or other place in the said City to remove any dirt, manure, animal or vegitable substance, siagnant wa'er, filth or reiuse matte: of any kin off and from such premises, after receiving 48 hours notice from the Sanitary Officer to remove the same, it shall be the duty of the banitary Officer, and he is hereby authorized and required to cause tbe same to be removed at the expense of the owner or Occupier so notified as aforesaid. Al- ter such removal as aforesaid, the Sipitary Officer shall forthwith demand payment ot the cost of removing the fame, and unless
