Dear Editor, As a member of the X-Press and as a potential journalist, you should realize the value of getting your facts straight and publicizing truths based on research and not gossip. Such accusations as were brought up by yourself at the election speeches have the potential to do a lot of harm. Put some respect into what you say and write and do us the favour of doing your homework. Otherwise, perhaps you should look into writing for high school gossip col- umns. A.M. Dear Hockey Trainer,

If you are so concerned about mature students, act like one. If you want respect fo: your words, stop shouting them like a self-righteous child. True representation is for a group, not one single case.

A case must be presented with respect in order to receive it.

You brought up an interesting issue that should be addressed, but it was poorly delivered. when the song and dance of your life history became the topic.

The issues you brought up were sympathetically and attentively addressed by the candidates Perhaps you could learn from their efforts.

Dear Editor: Would you please do an articl. on the rules of the parking on the university. There seems to be a great discussion on where one can park and where one cannot. It is apparent that some “No Parking” signs mean park and some actually mean no parking. For example, you can park along the back roadway beside the “No Parking” signs with no problem. Then you park beside a “No Parking” sign by the rink or in B lot and security will tow your car. Isn’t this a double standard? Another unbelievable rule on the campus is with the cross-walks and stop signs. Why are these signs not enforced. I live across the Avenue and when I walk to school I take my life into my own hands. No cross-walk or stop signs are enforced. Why?? Why does security just watch this happen? If they are too busy, why doesn’t the university get the Police out to enforce it? Someone is going to get killed. When a car hits a person, who gets hurt? It is going to happen, so why not fix it now? Dissing Driscoll Editor:

I am writing this letter in regard to the SU general meeting held in the Pit Wednesday. At that time I asked presidential candidate Kent Driscoll a question that has concerned several people.

This question asked how Mr. Driscoll (during his time as VPO) justified giving publicity rights to his em- ployer CFCY, and denying those rights (interviews for example) to the campus media -- X-Press and CIMN. I would like to retract the word employer, as Mr. Driscoll was previously employed by CHTN, but was not employed by either station at that time. However, the rest of the question is valid and deserves to be answered.

The X-Press was repeatly denied interviews by Mr. Driscoll; we were told that these interviews were not possible, and that the band did not need to be asked, he knew they would say no. Several of these same bands contacted us for interviews this year, and when we spoke to the publicist of one artist (denied by Mr. Driscoll) we were granted consent to run an interview.

Perhaps it could be argued that it is not the job of the VPO to get us interviews, but it is that individual’s job to publicise events, and part of that process includes procur- ing interview rights.

Since we could not arrange interviews through Mr. Driscoll, we reqested contact numbers so that we could arrange interviews ourselves. These numbers were also denied on the basis that he could not give out agent’s phone numbers to the “student media”. However, this year we were freely granted such numbers from CFCY/CHTN/ Q93.

This year’s VPO Finley Martin has contacted us several times advising us about upcoming events. Many bands (some of which played last year) have contacted us directly for publicity. Have the attitudes of bands changed favourably toward campus media? Or does the difference arise from the attude of an effective VPO?

When many people with their “green hat and shirt” were having “green beer” on St. Patrick’s day, six groups of people were busy challenging each other in a ball game in the Sport Centre. It was so-called indoor soccer tourna- ment and I believed its purpose was for fun and recreation. However, should the rules be strict in this kind of ball game?

I think the basic rules must be applied no matter what type of competition it is. Of course, | was pleased the ball game was well organized. Yet, there was one defect. | don’t know if there was a particular reason why the Sport Centre didn’t find a much more qualified referee. As | observed, one of the referees who is a basketball player seemed to have no knowledge about soccer game. For instance, she didn’t blow the whistle or give a verbal warning against the player who did wrong. It could be a big problem when players were more serious in the ball game. Physical contact occurred frequently may have reduced the safety of the players. Therefore, I'd like to suggest the Sport Centre find a qualified referee or list out the rules of the game next time to make sure everything runs safe.
