Two alike you sometimes res \vho are unlike as can be. '—Old Mother Nature.

n "W" queer yet it is true. Folks y look alike or be alike in some ot e-r way. yet in every other “'3? be Wlmlly unlike. They sre alike but different. It was so with Peter Rabbit and two cousins whom he had discovered in Farmer Brawl" dmfyard. All three wet-e Rabbits and looked it. But in other wnv they were quite different, how different Peter didn't find out on that first meeting. He didn't have time. It was getting light so fast that he had to scamper home to the dear Old Brier-patch and Mrs. Peter before it became too light to safely cross the Green Meadows.

The next night Peter was back in the dooryard as soon as he dared to go. He couldn't keep away. Curiosity wouldn't let him. Peter could no more have kept away from there than he could fly. His cousins were right where he had last seen them. They had to be. was almost all black

They were in a wire pen. You see they were pet Rabbits that had been given to Former Brown's boy. One was wholly white and the other was almost. all black.

As he came around one end of the bani Peter thumped lightly to let them know he was coming. They thumped back. This time

If East had taken this trick. the contract almost surely would have been made. because South's normal course would then be to cash the top hearts, enter dummy with a diamond, discord his last heart on the remaining club honor. and finally to ruff a heart, cs- tablishing a good heart trick in dummy. fctually. however, East unhesitatlngly played low on the spade queen-—snd after that south was helpless! He was short one vital entry in dummy for the cs- tsblishment of the thirteenth lie-art, and finally ended up losing two spades tricks.

South could have made the slam "on his own." simply by running the slight risk of discarding the heart ten on s. high club in dummy and cashing the top hearts before giving up so many of dii.mmy's en- tries. Then, nothing could have kept him from winning six dia- mond tricks in his own hand, two top hearts, two top clubs, one spade, and riummy's established

eight of hearts.

“You certainly did. What is odd about that?" retorted Blacky.
