‘ Students participating in basketball and hockey at the buzzer and intramural levels will be
competing in the Second Annual Christmas Tournament. This is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 3. Points will be gained by the winning teams after the first
game of the playoffs.

The Curling team try—ou t's are starting this week at the Charlottetown Curling Club. Coach LeClair is hoping to form both a women’s and.‘ a men’s team for the Maritime Inter-Collegiate Curling Championships, which will take place in Charlottetown from February 26-28, 1971. n
In addition, curlers of both sexes who are less than 21 years of age by January 1, 1971, are invited to try out for the Winter Games team. The Provincial playdowns to select the PEI team will be held on January 8, 1971.
Of special interest to swimming enthusiasts, the Athletic Department has purchased twenty YMCA memberships for the exclusive use of UPEI students. Those interested in going swim- ing may pick up a YMCA card at the Athletic Department Office during th e day, go swim- ing fliat night, and return the card the next ady

The gias volleyball team competed in a tournament at Fredericton, N.BAast-w%k-
end and came very close to finishing in sec- ond place.
Mount Allison won the tournament, Saint Thomas tied for second with Acadia in the point standings, but the S.T.U. had beaten Acadia in the round-robin competition, thus demoting the losers to third place. /
The. girls from U.P.E.I. beat the second
place finishers, but lost two very close games ’to Acadia University. Had they won those‘two games, U.P.E.I. would have come second. '
' Other teams competing were King’s College, ‘ U.N.B. Saint John and Mount St. Vincent.

play with Luc Bedard pulling the trigger. The
play was started by Jim MacDonald who carried
the puck into the Memorial zone passing it back
to the point to Bedard who let go with a 3 blistering slapshot that caught the bottom corner. 1 The Panthers continued to apply pressure but : 1
they were unable to get the puck by Dewar. In the third period play slowed down i
considerably as both teams began to show . the effects of two games in 18 hours. The ‘ Panthers scored the only goal of the period when Billy Weatherbie fired home a goal ,
pass from Ralph McCully. Howard Ellis
picked up an assist on the goal. In the , latter half of the period the Panthers
checked the Beothuks all over the ice, not allowing them archance to sruin Ladner’s
