Jun. 20 — Society Field Trip: Gerald MacDonald will lead an interpretive walk at Baltic Bog starting at 2:00 pm. The trip will extend to Townshend Woodlot. Pre—register with Meike Keunceke at 961-2737 to arrange for the Car Pool. If people pre—register, a car pool can leave the Farm Centre at 1:00 pm. Please bring rubber boots and mosquito protection.

July 18 - Young naturalists will hunt for dragonflies and damselflies with Bob and Jacob Harding. The hunt will include a search for their larvae and other creatures at the bottom of the pond. Pre—regiStration is necessary. Contact Bob at 902—838-2699 or Meike Keunecke at 961-2737. Car-pooling available from Morell Co-op and Montague Elementary School at 9:00 am or meet at Mooney's Pond at 9:30.

Aug. 1 - Stu Tingley, a renowned naturalist, will provide a slide presentation on Dragonflies, Damselflies, & Butterflies of the Atlantic Region which will be followed by a field trip. Meet at the Farm Centre rear parking lot at 9 am to travel to the Mooney's Pond interpretive centre or meet at Mooney's at 9:30 am. Note: there is a $3 charge for this presentation to help defray costs.

Aug. 6 to 8 - The Canadian Nature Federation will be hosted by the Chignecto Naturalists Club in Sackville, New Brunswick. There will be field trips to Cape Jouriman and Confederation Bridge to P.E.I., Dorchester Cape, Tantramar Marshes, Amherst Marsh Bird Sanctuary, Joggins Fossil Cliffs, Mary's Point, Memramcook Valley, and Buctouche Dunes plus symposia on important bird areas, marine protected areas, creating a waterfowl park, national parks update, protecting Mary's Point, wildlife rehabilitation, and a birder's year in New Brunswick. Aug. 18 — Young Naturalists are invited to a slide show about shorebirds and the Piping Plover work on P.E.I. They will then travel by car-pool to Red Head near Morell and do a count of the shorebirds with Jim Jenkins and Meike Keunecke and then explore shore life along the coast. Pre-registration is necessary with Meike at 961—2737 to coordinate car-pooling from the Morell Co- op, Montague Elementary School, and Farm Centre rear parking lot. Car-pools will meet at 9 am at each site to travel to the Mooney’s Pond Interpretive Centre or meet at the Mooney's Pond site at 9:30.

Sept. 12 - Linda Thomas will be the Society's field trip leader in Watching the Shorebird Migration. Expect to see Semipalmated Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover, Black-bellied Plover, dowitchers, yellowlegs, Hudsonian Godwit, and more. Car pooling from the Farm Centre rear parking lot at 9 am or meet at the Stanhope entrance to P.E.I. National park at 9:30 am.

Oct. 6 - David Cairns will be the Society’s guest speaker with “Small frog in a big ocean: The Salmon’s fight for survival.” The presentation will show how changes in the ocean have made the salmon a vulnerable species. Meeting starts at 7:30 at the Farm Centre in Charlottet0wn.

Oct. - The Autumn Birding Classic will again be hosted by the Society as a fund raiser for the Island Nature Trust’s natural areas program. The dates and pledge forms will be included in the next newsletter.

Nov. 3 - John de Grace will provide Natural History Society members and guests with an illustrated presentation on “The geological history of Prince Edward Island, its rocks, and fossils”. Meeting starts at 7:30 at the Farm Centre in Charlottetown.
