The funeral of Theodore Mailer was largely attended yesterday. The burial services were held at the Methodist Church. Rev. H. M. Mobba delivered 4 most im- | posing sermon, and one which impressed itself deeply upon ell who heard him, al- though he was entirely unacquainted with the deceased. Rev. Mr. Mobbs spoke as follows :—
** Brethren, we have met this morning to pay the last act of respect to a fellow-citi- zen, and drop a tear with the bereft family, who have been called upon to pasa through the fires of so great an affliction, and I ask that this audience and the entire commu- nity will join with me in this pending duty. ** That the whole human family are bound together dy one silver chain, known by the name of sympathy, is apparent, from the

THE DETHRONED IRISH LEADER MAKES A SPEECH AT PHOENIX PARK.
Notwithstanding the rain, says a Dublin despatch, fully 2,000 people assembled at Phoenix Park, on Sunday, to assist in the demonstration of the Amnesty Association and protest against the continued imprison- ment and alleged inhuman treatment of frish and Irish-American political prisoners by the British Government. After speeches had been made by Messrs. Kenny, Parnell and others, resolutions were passed calling upon Irishmen at home and abroad to put forth every effurt to secure the release of friends, and demanding that the Govern- ment hasten the unconditional surrender of prisoners. Parnell’s speech was a tirade against the liberals, whom he accused of always making political prisoners, while the Conservatives released them. Parnell declared that the Irieh party never made conditions with the government. The
fact that there are many here this morning, though they have never known the deceased in his lifetime, yet, when grim death makes | him his prey, and leaves the thousand atreams of loving affectiun to flow back in alpine torrent upon the stricken hearts. They are ready and waiting to extend words of sympathy and perform acts of self-sacritice and love.
{pon such occasions it is not necessary to explain that the deceased was white or black, rich or poor, good or bad. All I need say is, two eyes have gently closed, two hands are folded over the breast, two; feet have ceased to walk, one heart is still. ; A man is dead, children are orphans, a wife and mother is suddenly left a widow, and that 1s enough to assure help and «sympathy from this entire community ** God has not made me « judge of man.) kind. John was told that these were they who had come up out of great tribulations, and had washed their robes, and made them white. In the Methodist church? No In the Baptist church? No. In the Epis- eopal church? Ne, In the Catholicchurch? No. But have washed their rubes in the blood of the lamb.
Now, all that is left for me to do is to commit this body to the dust, and com- ; mend his spirit to God, who gave it. To' the bereaved ones, I commend you to Jesus Christ. He can speak words of sympathy that none other can. He can pour into wounded spirits the balm of consolation, until they can look up from the rick of, their fondest expectations, and say, ‘‘ Father, not my will, but thine be done.”

The phosphate beds in South Caroliaa have proved mines of wealth. The Coosaw Mining Co., which gets its ores from under water, has been paying the State at the rate of $500 a day for its privilege. Gov. Tillman demands a doubling of this rate, aud the company resists, closing ite doors and throwing 800 men out of employment. In the meantime the state is loosing its $500 a day.
There is a human balleon at one of the hospitals in New York City. Although weighing but 120 pounds, he is so inflated that he Soe the appearance of weighing 300. In an accident one of his ribs was broken and the fractured bone penetrated his lungs, letting airinto his tissues and puffing him up like a baloon Such accidents are rare, but it is claimed that they are subject to successfel treatment, and the unfortunate man may yet be reduced to his normal shape,

Agricu tural Notes.
Common stock of any kind never pays. The man who can show even a fine brood of blooded fowls does it with a pride that stimulates him. They costno more to keep, and poultry and eggs of superior quality are always in demand at extra prices. ‘The poor farmer can never get rich so long as he wastes his energies and his feed upon poor grades of horses and cattle. Getastart with blooded stock, and thereafter the expense will be no greater thanin raising that for which there is no maiket. ~ Texas Stockman.
Boston Prices.—From an official circular of the 3rd, to hand yesterday, we learn that afurtber advance was made immediately following the last report, and for a day or two it was difficult finding any good stock at much less than $115, but since Monday the demand has fallen off somewhat and the market has been ruling a little more io buyers favor. At the close, Canada Rose, Hebrons and Burbanks were steady at $1 05 to $1 10 per bushel. The egg market is firm, with Eastern extras selling at 22 cents and Eastern firsts at 21 cents There is no notable change in the prices of firth, but the demand for mackeral is a little m»re active than it was. The provision market is vers firm for all kinds and dealers are buying freely in anticipation of a further advance.
