CFS/UPEI National Students Day Celebration

Smitty’s Shuttle

Smitty’s Restaurant is offer- ing a 50% discount all day for this event. Toward this cause, Stu- dent will provide a van shuttle service to the restaurant, leaving from Kelley building taxi stop, at 8 AM (with pick-up at 9 AM) and 12 PM (with pick-up at 1PM).

2nd Annual Great Soccer Match

Students will play a co-ed, fun-filled game of interesting soc- cer together with the Women’s and Men’s soccer team mem- bers (who will play with disad- vantages) 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM, MacAdam Field. Trophy, rib- bons, and prizes to be won and given away.

Poets may enter the Ameri- can Poetry Associatoin’s nation- wide contest now. Over $11,000 in prizes will be-awarded to 152 winners. Entry is free and every- one is welcome to enter.

The Grand Prize is $1,000 and the First Prize is $500. Other prizes include cash awards and publication.

Model UN Meeting

The UPEI MOdel United Na- tions Association will hold an in- formation meeting on Tuesday, October 17 at 5:30 pm in the Robertson Library Lecture. The- atre.

Because of its unique_loca- tion, New York City, the Model United Nations Simulation af- fords its participants a week of memorable experiences. Students learn about UN procedures and act as deligates of their nation during the simulation.

This spring UPEI students will be simulating two countries, one of which is Japan. Through a special agreement, UPEI and Japanese students will work to- gether to simulate Japanese poli- cies in New York. The Jopanese students will be on PEI a week before the actual simulation to meet their Island collegues. The second coutry has not been de- cided as of yet. It will most likely be a third world country.

This spring’s simulation takes place April 10-14. The delega- tion will be leaving for New York on Sunday, April 8 and arriving home on Easter Sunday, April 15. A note of caurtion to students this is 2 days before exams start.

This credit course is open to students from all disciplines. It is not limited to political stud- ies majors or arts students. Sci- ence, business, music, and edu- cation students are strongly en- couraged to apply. There are no prequistes. However, the course is not open to freshmen. Sopho- mores are especially welcome.
