Now if farmers wieh for euch results they should buy only nigh grade fertilizers. Too many of us ere inclined to buy the cheapest grades and find at last to oar loss aod sorrow that they are dear indeed. The farmers of New Brunswick have recently had a bitter experience of thiskird. A Phosphate Powder was offered them a few dollars per ton cheaper tnan the high grade fertilizers,

Large quantities were scold at $25 per ton, and car loads were sold two years ago in Carleton County.

The coming season nota car of it wil! be gold in the entire County. The results were unsatisfactory.

But the sales of high grade fertilities are ‘increasing steadily because the farmers find their use profitable.

The best is uone too good for the farm- er, and the best is the cheapest in the end. The Fertilizer Bulletin issued by the Dominion Government for 1898 gives the value of that Phosphate Powder as $14.50 per ton. The value of high grade fertilizere range from $25 57 to $54 15 per ton.

‘Lhese laiter are well compounded and well propoationed and can be profitably used bythe farmer. The useof 200 or 300 ponnds of fertilizer to the acre has given most satisfactory results as top- dressing for grass and increasing the crop for two or three years. Farmers have found ita saving of strength, time and money to use fertilizers on fields a long distsace from the barn, and the manure oa those fields nearby. A Inad of fertilizer will manure a number of acres for most crops, and by its use the crops can be put in much more rapidly.

Another profitable use of fertilizers is with manure to give the erops a quick start, epecially on the roots, te make them vigorous so that they wili the better with- ~tand the ravages of those bugs, worms, and flies that prey upon them. This is the experience of many farmers in our own and in neighboring proviuces. No better evidence of the economical use ot tertil zera could be had than the large in crease in their sales during the last ten years,

But each farmer should be sure that he buys the best, and then u-es them ju ite ciously and he will have the satisfaction of harvesting bountiful and remunerative crops.
