Tae Orewa House.—The Miles Ideal Stock Company closed their season in Charlottetown last evening, when the sensational western drama “New Mexico, or the Boy Hero,” was plaved to a good house. The manager, in speaking of the season’s work in this city and the good audiences that attended their performances, took occasion to refer to the letter from “A Lover of the Drama,” which appeared in last evening’s issue of Tos Examiner. He raid the management always made it a rule to give the best possible performances, and did their best to please all. If there was anything in any of the specialties that wounded the feelings of anv person no one regretted it more tuan hedid. Montreal Aug. 31.—The annual meet- ing of the Mecieal Association was held here today. Dr. Walker of St. John N.B., presented the report of the committee on interprovincial registration, which was that the medical councils of Quebec, Prince Edwaid Island, Nova Scotia and Manitoba hal signified their approval ot the resolutions of the committee of 1896, and nave accepted them as a basis of agree- ment for ioterprovincial registratiatior. The committee recommended that the matter be referred to the councils mention- ed to formulate an agreerpent and carry it into effect. It was stated that the

such arrangement without alterations of of their act of incorpora‘ions, and they were not prepared to go to legislation for a change at present. Sir Wilfred’s home-coming, is not all
fireworks and huzzaving. The Canadian people who were uneasy when he i-fi at the heediess financing of the Federal rn are positively alarmed by now. Ugly rumors are afloat respecting more than One matter; andstaunch -v diers in the Liberal ranks who fought at hes side through the long days when there seemed little enought chance of success, are raising strong aud open protest against the flagrant maaver in which bis Mini-try has cast aside pre election promises and plunged into cources that must land us deeper in dept and at a desperate disiance from lighter taxation. It is feared that men who were not with the Liberal Opposition of the eighties— either in person or in sympathy—bave become masters of this’ Administration, and are leading it by paths that the Mac- kenzie-Blade Liberals never expecied to tread.
This is the situation which Sir Wilfrid must face snd save. He is easily the strongest man inthe party; and if, he will, he can give the country a. Govern- ment in accordance with Liberal p.edges. This is the path of security. Should he, onthe ether band, voluntarily abandon his Premiership and fling the reins to Tarte and Blair, he need not be surprised if compelled to face a ruinéous revolt among hisown followers. The country simply cannot stand a political carouse, and no one sees this more clearly than the Patrom Liberals who have cried eloud for ecooomy for years. Sir Wilfrid must take his choice. He must stand with the Liberals who stood with him. or sur- render tothe element which boasts that elections are not “made with prayers.”
