The drive which started April 15 must be completed by about June I. when the river becomes too low to handle the millions of logs. As summer prosresess. the river falls to a mere trickle.

The 60 men are stationed at points along the t5-mile stretch. and are constantly alert to break up log jams. In case of a big jam. they stretch a boom across the river upstream. to prevent additional logs adding to the jam.

Then they use 10-foot pikepoles to extricate key logs from the jam they have to c r o as water to reach the trouble. flat-bottom boats are used. hince the four-foot logs cannot support a man.

The 45,000 cords brought down the river lnrm about 40 per cent of the m'lil's supply. About 50,000 cords are cut on other company holdings. and the remainder is hauled by freight from points as far west as Alberta.
