General French reconroitered arowod the enemy’s left flank, Jan. 10, and ad- vanced to Slinger’s Farm Jan. 11.

His cavalry and horse artillery bom bar- ded the Boer’s laager east of Colesburg Junction, but were uuabie to outflank the enemy.

The reconnisance of cavalry and mounted infantry pushed merth to Bas tard’s Neck, and examined the country north of the ridge.

General Gatacre reports no change.

All was was well on December 28 at Mafeking.
