There were twenty-one members present, including Mrs. Ray Clark. who was welcomr-dinto membership. The routine business was conducted. At the request of Miss Helen Schurman. Superint- ent. she was authorized to pur- chase plastic dishes, toast covers and trays with the residue of the collections for the League of Mercy. The usual sum of 536 was voted to be used towards the Nurses Christmas treat. As a means of raising funds it was de- cided to continue a series of bridge parties and Mrs. A. H. Hubley and Mrs. Morley M. Nell were appoint- ed as conveners for the first one in the New Year. Prizes were donated by Mrs. Heath Strong and Mrs. A. B. L. Horne. Plans were made for the West Ward Pantry Sale to be held the last Saturday

Our vocational school. In sum- mersldc High school has been ad- optld by the Provincial Board of Education. Last year the different departments of the night school were lDOI'ilOi'cu by several service organizations of the town. A brave enterprise, initiated with enthu- siasm. carried on with zeal. but not advanced much beyond the ex- perimental stage. It is difficult to maintain educational activity in- definitely by means of the largess of service clubs. In giving the movement its first impetus. the clubs have done a preliminary job which reflects credit on their init- iative. But now that our govern- ment has recognized the project as an integral part of Prince Edward Island's educational program. it is on more solid ground, and should go on to greater achievement. Much of the credit must go to the High school supervisor. Clarence Mercer. for It was he who carried the idea in his head before it reached the stage of a noble ex- periment.

-There passed peacefully away at her home in Lower Freetown early Tuesday morning. Dec. 4th. one of that community's oldest and most respected residents in the person of Mrs. Patrick Ham- mlll in her seventy-seventh year. The late Mrs. Hammlll had been In ailing health for a number of years, but only within the past three weeks did her condition become more serious and hope wane for her recovery. Nee Luc- lnda Doyle of Camphellton. Lot 7. she married Patrick I-lammill of Summerside about sixty years ago and settled in Summeraide. later moving to Lower Freetown where she and her husband oper- ated a large and prosperous farm

predeceased her ten years ago. eft to mourn the loss of a loving mother are three sons: Wilfred. Austin and Redverse. all in Lower Freetown: and seven daughters: Mrs. George Sherry in Fernwood, Mrs. Russell McCar- vllle In Lower Freetown. Mrs. Harold Johnson In Summerslde. Mrs. Laura McLellan In Montreal. Helen on the nursing staff of Queen Mary Vetsi Hospital in Montreal. who came home and nursed her in her last illness. and Dorothy and Pauline at home. An- other son. the Rev. Thomas Ham- mlll. predeceased her six years ago. An only surviving brother. Mr. Thomas Doyle, still resides on

the old Doyle homestead in Campbellton. Lot 7. Her funeral will take place

from her late residence In Lower Freetown to St. Mnlachy's Church In Kinkora on the morning of Dec. 6th where Solemn Requiem High Mass will he 1.-elebrnied by her pastor. Rev. Francis McQuaid. after which her mortal remains will be laid beside husband and priest-son in the adjoining parish cemetery.
