Yester- day he concluded a most success- ful and happy pastorate in Char- lottetown by preaching two pow- erful and inspiring sermons to congregations that filled the spec- ious auditorium of this grand old church of eighty-five years. both morning and evening.

Mrs. Weston Francis at his old home in Free- town. also brothers and sisters ir. Freetown and a sister in Borden. Mrs. H. Crossman. Mr_ Francis holds a responsible position wit?- the Hynds and Panche Co. in Watei-town, Mass. He has been em- ployed with this company for twenty five years.

James Leonard Plestid. 17. was drowned’ in Grand River when 1* ventured too far from shore when bathing and stepped into the cnan- nel about two o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was in the company of Gerald MacLellan and Roland Murphy. all of them residents of that locality and none of ivliam could swim, When the deceased found himself in deep water he called for help but there was nothing his companions could do as he was canted away by the current.

The accident occurred just below Grand River Catholic Church snd the river at this point is more than a half mile wide.

Members of the Summersiue Detachment RCMP. were noti- fied and dragging operations were organized and the body was re- covered about five o'clock.

The death occurred at her home on Spring Street, on Saturday about 5.30, of Mrs. Norman Wright at the age of a5 years. Al- though aile had been ill for the past two months, news of her death comes as a distinct shock to her many old friends in Summer- side. .

She was a daughter of the late lvlr. and Mrs. Henry Wadman, formerly of Victoria, and she was formerly Margaret Matilda Wad- mari. After her marriage she re- sided at Victoria until the year 1900 when her husband who was a successful general merchant there, moved to Summerside and she has since resided here. Her husband, who died in i913 and will be remembered by older residents of the Town, conducted for some years s well known business firm in partnership with his brother, the late Elisha Wright.

Death came with startling sud- denness to Rev. George William Barrass on Saturday afternoon, July 17th, at the home cf his sCIl, Rev. Ernest J. Bari-ass, minister oi the First Baptist Church, 219 Church Street, Sunrmerside. The deceased had Ul ast in his ap- parently usual good health but complained after shaving of not feeling well. The doctor being summoned. ordered rest but a short time later his son, going to his father's room, found the aged gentleman already dead.

The late Mr. Barrass was s. re- tired Congregationsl missionary having served for many years in London, England. Eighteen months ago, on the death of his second wife, he came to Canada to live with his only son. A daughter. ltlrs. RS. Shaw died in England many years ago. Mr. Bsrrsss at the tin-c of his death, was in his 88th year and was s familiar fig- ure on the streets of Summcrside. being very active for his years.

R.C.M.P., were placed under arrest last evening under bailable writs issued out of the Supreme Court following actions taken by Mr. Welter Bergman. financier. of Montreal snd Traveli- er's Rest. The officers. Sgt. D. J. Heath and Constable Leo Lou-men. were released shortly after being taken into custody by Sheriff Hubert Hall. on bail of 610,000

each. .

The actions were commencedfor ailleged illegal trespass arising out of a search conducted on Monday st Illa/Bergman's residence at ‘Traveller's Rest by the two officers. resulting in the seizure of several bottles oi liouor.

ft is claimed that the members of the R.C.'M.P. exceeded their authority and that because they had no search warrant their entry into the Bergman dwelling was il- leval.

Police state that s charge of il- l-wzal possession under the new Temperance Act is pending against. Mr. Bergman.

The arrest of the officers rm bailable writs is an action rarely taken in Canadian courts. The procedure is an ancient one. largely unused for many years.

PAINIUL ACCIDENT — Mister Walter Dlcklesorl, son of m. and Mrs. Ivan Dickieson. Darnlcy, met with a painful accident when he came in contact with s pitch-fork driving one of its prongs into his knee bone.
