Tag Recisiay Orvice.—The statement in last Saturday 3 Pafriof respecting the Registry Office, lacks tlic essential element. The facie of the case are simply these: At the time Mr. Davies’ Government came into office the work in the Registry Office was some months in ar- rears. Mr. Davies, in order to have the work brought up, put extra help into the office and increased the work gradually from 20 to 30 folios per day, at which last figure it remained, any Clerk copying more than 30 folios per day betag allowed 8 cents per folio for the extra work performed. ‘The 40 folio system was made by ap order in ‘Council of the 15th December, 1878. and continued up to the for- mation of Mr. Sullivan’s Government, and for some time afierward ; but no extra werk over the 40 folios was paid for or performed. oes the writer of the article in the Patriot mean to say that to properly write and compare 40 folios per day during office hours is not too |

The Olerks in the Registry Office have been ‘writ- ing and comparing 35 folios per day since the Ist of January ; and comparing the amount | of work required from ther and the salaries they receive with that of other officials, we must say that they are insufficiently paid.
