REFERRING to the deaths of last year in the Presbyterian Church of the Provinees, Mode- rator McLe1n, at the meeting of Synod, said : ‘Rev. Mr. Sedgewirk, whose death had been referred to, was a neighbor of his, and was his friend and counsellor for twenty-one years His influence was felt as that of the morning sup; his honesty, his kindness, his love for treth, bis fervency, gave him a wonderful power, which he used for the service of his Master. He was called away suddenly, i. answer to his prayers that he might not be a trouble to his friends in his declining years. Rev. Mr, Munro, well known in P. FE. Island, has been carried away at a ripe old age. Both of these honored.men have left be- hind them sous in the ministry. The vener- able Mr. Wilson has also passed away. He was highly spoken of in Cape Breton. Rev. Chas. Fraser was also called away suddenly. A Lyorurer rrom Paestine.—The Rey. G. Howie, a pative of Syria and a graduate of Edinburgh, arrived in Halifax on the 28th April last, and at once commenced a course of lectures upon the threefold subject, via: Pro- testant Missions in the East; the state of Temperance there; Bible landa—its peoples, their customs, habits, dress, buildings, &c. Mr, Howie arrived in Charlottetown on Satur- day last and occupied the pulpits of St. James and Zion churches, and on Tharsday in St. James’ Church. Sometimes he appears iu Eastern costume and always endeavors to ex- plain and illustrate certain texts of Scripture by means of his lectures, On the last two Sundays of October he is expected to preach
