Alan Hilton - President I am' a third year stu— dent, the last two of

which I have been in formal association with our stud-- ent union in a variety of capacities. I have been a member of uor campus Police Force, a member of the Personnal Board, Student Representative on the Student Aid Advisory Comm. for the Dept. of Education, and have served as Speaker of the Student Union. Daring this tine I have come in contact with a variety of students repre— senting various opinions and concerns with regard

to the day to day function—— ing, and direction of our

would be one of my first and major priorities. This I feel , is the first step in improving our Student Union, and achievinggreat— er Student input into the decision making process.

With regards to AFS, - it is my feeling that for one reason or another , it has failedtc provide re— sponsible representation on behalf of the varios Student Unions, to govern— ment. For this reason I have have seriously began to question the credibility of AFS, and at present would be in favor of opting out of it. What I propose as an alternative, is the establishment of our own _ liason committee to be ap- pointed by Council, and to act as a direct link be- tween our UPEI S.U. and the provincial government in matters of student con- cern. It is my feeling that this line of direct conmunication could better serve and represent our student body.

'I'nere are other main issues, scare of which are: The Student Bursary Fund, the parking situation on campus, The Landlord and 'Iehant Act, pay increases within our Union, and the situation with regard to our Student Union Building.

Working with student un union has always been one of my favorite interests. In high school I worked on

student council for 4 years

and I've served as Vice- President of the union Iere at UPEI for tlne past yeah/After all these years experience there is little about the operations and duties of the Student Union that I'm not famaliar with. A Student Union has

and will continue to next year. But the second func- ticn, helping students who are having problems, has been badly neglected. As president , Host of my at- tention would be devoted to representing student concerns to the university \ administration, government and the public. Individual students who need help " will get it, and protectinc the rights of students as ' a group will be my major concerns. Pigs and Pubs and carnivals can look aft after themselves because ther's always scmecine to run them. A president must be concerned with the is- sues and interests of the students as a whole.
