Bis Gens Fon Haumax.—The military authorities at Halifax have been notified of the shipm: nt of a powerful gun by the steamer “Gothenburg City” for that port, and three others will follow at an early date. The guns are twice as large ag any now in the forts. Their weight is 32 tons, bore 10 inches, and charge of powder 250 pounds. They throw a 590-pound shell. At 2000 yards the shot will penetrate wrought iron 194 inches. The new guns will be placed in the new fort on Mac. rab’s Island, in the centre of Halifax harbor. Theae sie the largest guns on this side of the Atlantic, and will add greatly to the defence of Halifax.

Canada Pacific stock, which closed at 74 in London yesterday, opened at 713 to-day, feli io 67}, reached 69°. and theu fell to 682. The whole Lon- don list fell from four to six points, LONDON, Noy. 19.

After verging upon a panic, the stock market closed with a better tendency all around. The chief cause of depression was the refusal of the Bank of England to dis- count bills of Baring Bros. & Co. before maturity.

O Brien, members of Parliament. and Mr. Bolton were indicted on charges of conspiracy to induce tenants on the Smith- Barry e:tates nut to pay rent. William O'Brien and John Dillon were sen- tenced to two terms of imprisonment of six months each, but the sentences are to rum concurently. Patrick O'Brien and Cullanene were each sentenced to six months imprisonment and Walsh, Mockley and Bolton to four months each. All the sentences were without labor, Congdon, Kelley and Sheahey, members of Parlia- ment, and Father Humphrey indicted on the same charges were found ‘* not guilty,” and discharged. a a ll Kochs’ Consumption Cure. The bill provides that the Board shall be under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury.
