POTATOES,

The market for potatoes in the United States remains the same as last repertéd. The export for this season has been com- pleted. It has been a large one both in quantity and value. A Baltimore cireular of the 20th inst., says: At the wharf we note further arrivals the past week of six cargoes from P. E. Island, in all 26,000 bushels, which, with previous arrivals, A good deal of the stock is going into store, and the sales which are being made from vessels range from 90 cents to $1 per bushel. as to variety for Blues, White and Early Rose. We hear of no further direct importation of Irish, though some have been received via New York, landed at that port by steamer, and we quote for prime stock at $1 to $1.10 per bushel.

FLOUR.

The Montreal Gazette of the 12th re- ports: “‘In flour there was a fair Iceal enquiry at somewhat stiffer values. The sale was reported this afternoon of 1,000 bags of Ogilvie’s strong baker’s at $3.75, and of 50 bbis of white bread sponye flour at $8.25. For broken lots of Superior $6 25 was paid to-day. Sales renorted on Change were : 50 bbls extra at $6 00, 50 middlings at $4.00, 50 medium bakers’ at $6.15, 50 strong bakers’ at $6.15, 100 do at $6 59, 50 do at $7.00.”

PORK AND LARD,

In Montreal market on the 12th there was no important change in hog producta, Western mess pork being quoted at $20 for old, and $20.75 and $21 for new rd was quiet at 144c for Canadian in pails and at lde for American Dressed hogs were steady at $7.75 and $8 per 100 lbs in car lots, but no sales were reported except in a jobbing way. Smoked hams are beginning to receive a little more attention, and several sales of city cured were mentioned at 13c, among which was that of a 100 pieces at 13c, and a lot at a shading below that figure. —(azette.

A rime at North Sydney on Monday: last, destroyed eight buildings, including W. H. Moore & Co’s store, one of the largest in the town. ‘The loss is estimated at $100,000.
